👃Have you ever thought about letting your dog use their nose more?🐾

I’m finding that Scentwork is SO much more than simply teaching a dog to find a smell. Although I think it will be a monumental task to practice this with Obi- as you can see, he’s not a natural.

Using their incredible sense of smell can provide dogs with mental stimulation, enrichment, confidence-building and a natural outlet for their innate behaviours. And the best bit? Any dog can have a go! 🐶

Some breeds may naturally have advantages when it comes to certain scent tasks, but scentwork can be adapted to suit the individual dog — whether they’re young, old, energetic, nervous, easily distracted or simply LOVE sniffing everything on their walks!

I’m currently working my way through a scentwork learning course, and I’m learning so much about canine olfaction, scent detection, how dogs process different odours and how we can use scentwork effectively and safely.

So, over the coming weeks, I’ll probably be sharing lots of little snippets from what I’m learning 👀 and how Obi takes to it as my guinea pig.

All in preparation for something exciting…

If anyone fancies some fun training on Sundays 🥳🐾

🐾 Do You Fancy joining our Sunday 'Progression' Gang? 🐾

Every Sunday, a lovely little gaggle of dogs and their owners get together with me and Esme to do a bit of training (and have some fun !!)

We do things like 'paws up', 'go round' and a few other tricks, as well as more practical skills such as emergency stops, loose lead walking past distractions and recalls. It’s a nice mix of useful, real-life training and things that are just fun to teach and learn.

The group has been full up until now, but with October coming in, a couple of people have other things going on, which means we’ve got a couple of spaces available.

📍 Hopewell Dog Park – Obedience Field
📅 Sundays at 12pm(Starting Sunday Oct 4th)

⏰ Around 45 minutes
💷 £50 for a 4-week block

This is for people who have trained with me before — whether that’s through puppy classes, Teenage Tearaways, one-to-ones or another of my courses.

The start of Ziggy’s emergency ‘down’ while walking - understandably it’s a longer way down for him!

I test if I can delay the reward and he stays in the down on a surface that’s not too comfortable, hopefully working it into walks when another dog needs to walk past or approach, as Ziggy doesn’t know his own size or strength and wants to suss out every other dog 🐶

🐾Newbies 🥰
I’ve been allergic to socials for a couple of weeks- which of course isn’t okay as I’ve had new faces to show off!!

I’ve had the joys of working with Kaya, Podge, Riley, Ziggy and Bertie recently (sorry to group you all together but you’re all awesome!!) working on various training aspects and making progress.
