Veterinary nurses are always striving to provide the best care to their patients but how can we do this when presented with an unfamiliar species? Providing high quality contextualised care should be second nature to veterinary nurses whether a cat, dog, rabbit, bird or reptile. This talk will walk through the anatomical and anaesthesia challenges relating to commonly seen exotic species in veterinary practice. Attendees will be equipped with the knowledge required to mitigate peri-anaesthetic mortality in exotic species, how to apply hands-on monitoring techniques, and how best to utilise machine-based monitoring for a variety of species.
Learning Points:
โ
To be able to identify peri-anaesthetic risks associated with a variety of species
โ
To be able to provide first aid and follow up nursing care to a range of species
โ
To be able to collate an equipment list tailored to your practice and feel confident identifying the practiceโs additional needs
