Let’s talk TICKS! 🤔

Ticks are small parasites that attach to pets, feeding on blood and potentially transmitting diseases like Lyme disease, particularly in spring and autumn.

Help prevent them with veterinary treatments and check pets daily after walks. If a tick is found, remove it immediately using a tick remover or fine-tipped tweezers.

* Where to Check: Focus on the head, ears, neck, paws, and between legs.
* Removal Method: Seek veterinary advice/help or use a tick remover/tweezers to grab the tick close to the skin.
* Symptoms of Disease: Look for lethargy, loss of appetite, fever, stiff joints, and swelling.

Prevention Tips:
* Use preventative products recommended by your veterinarian.
* Keep household grass cut short and remove leaf litter to reduce tick habitats.
* Avoid walking through long grass and dense, wooded areas during peak season.

With the forecast due to be SCORCHIO for the next few days, we would like to remind all our pet parents to be safe and vigilant when it comes to your fur babies. ☀️ 🐾

🐾 Walk your dogs in the early morning or late evening to avoid peak sun hours.

💦 Make sure plenty of drinking water is always available.

🚗 NEVER leave your pet alone in a car – even with the windows open.

☂️ Provide plenty of shade.

🥶 Use cooling products such as mats, bandanas and vests.

🚿 Allow your dogs to play with pet sprinklers, paddling pools and cooling toys.

☀️ Apply pet-safe suncream to the vulnerable/ sensitive areas (nose, ear tips, tummy).

⚠️ If your pet is showing signs of heatstroke such as excessive panting, lethargy, drooling or vomiting please contact your veterinary surgeon for further advice. ⚠️

Enjoy the sun with your fur babies this weekend and stay safe! ☀️ 🐾

DID YOU KNOW? 🤔

🪱 Some species of tapeworms in dogs can be infectious to humans too.

🪱 Tapeworms are able to shed segments in a dogs poo and they can even crawl out of the bottom on their own!

🪱 Adult worms remain unseen in a pets small intestine, drilling their mouth into the gut lining and stealing nutrients.

🪱 Tapeworms can survive for years inside your dog, with some types reaching up to 16 FEET in length, the height of an adult giraffe.

Make sure you don’t forget tapeworm when it comes to parasite control for your pet.
