Raffi’s Journey Back to Grooming 💙
Almost a year ago, Raffi the West Highland Terrier found the grooming process very difficult, so his owner made the kind decision to continue trying at home. Despite their best efforts, it ended with two broken sets of clippers, and they decided to get back in touch to see if I would try again.
This time I approached Raffi with no expectations and no judgement—simply staying grounded and allowing him to work at his own pace. Looking back, I really wish I’d recorded this session.
We started with a bath, which Raffi coped with beautifully. During drying, I used a Happy Hoodie to help make the experience more comfortable.
Throughout the groom I incorporated Tellington TTouch, including:
🐾 Zebra TTouch – gently dipping in and out of contact, ideal for dogs who are uncomfortable with continuous touch.
🐾 Ear Slides and Raccoon TTouch – helping him stay relaxed around his head and jaw.
🐾 Turtle TTouch – encouraging relaxation and releasing tight areas of fascia.
🐾 Heart Hugs around the shoulders and chest – slow, mindful contact to support calmness and body awareness.
There was also a little whistling and singing along the way!
The result?
✔️ Body clipped.
✔️ Inside and outside of the legs completed.
✔️ Chest groomed.
✔️ Ears clipped inside and out.
✔️ Head tidied.
✔️ Knots removed from his muzzle and chin.
✔️ Part of his most challenging front leg completed.
At that stage I invited his owner in to offer a little support, which helped us finish what we could comfortably achieve together.
His owner was amazed by how much we had accomplished.
What pleased me most wasn’t simply how much grooming we completed—it was that Raffi remained engaged, cooperative and comfortable throughout the session. By listening to him and adapting my approach, we achieved far more than anyone expected.
Raffi is booked back in a couple of months, and next time I’ll be recording his session so I can share his continued progress.
Sometimes it’s not about working faster—it’s about working with the dog in front of you. ❤️
