You may have noticed I’ve been a bit quieter on social media recently...

That’s because I’ve been super busy studying! 📚🐾

I’m about halfway through a Level 6 Diploma in Clinical Canine Behaviour.

I’ve always been a bit of an animal behaviour geek 🤓 and I’m constantly learning through courses, seminars, webinars, research and far too many dog-related rabbit holes! 😂 But it’s been a long time since I’ve taken on something this substantial, so getting back into proper student mode has taken some adjustment!

And honestly? I’m loving every minute of it.

I’m getting to dive much deeper into complex behaviour cases and, most importantly, develop an even better understanding of what’s happening underneath our dogs’ behaviour.

Because that’s what the Active Instincts Dog Training Academy is all about - understanding dogs, rather than simply trying to change what they do.

I’m passionate about continually developing my knowledge so I can give my clients and their dogs the very best support possible.

And I’ll be sharing little snippets of what I’ve been learning along the way - helping you understand your own dogs a little better, too. 🐾❤️

So that’s where I’ve been hiding... studying, learning and getting even more obsessed with dogs! 😂

I'm incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of Monty Roberts, the original horse whisperer. He was instrumental in bringing relationship-based horse training into the mainstream and his drive to create trust, harmony, communication and understanding between humans and horses was the biggest inspiration to me when I first started working with horses some 30 years ago.

While I was at university, I was lucky enough to meet Monty in person and experience the trust and harmony he nurtured with the horses around him. His principles shaped the way I interacted with horses, they gave me the confidence to use training methods that were very different to the way we were "supposed" to train horses back then, and they still influence the way I work with all animals today.

Thank you, Mr Roberts (said in the same, silly voice he used when verbalising the internal dialogue he was having with the horse he was working with), for making the world a better place for our horses 🐴♥️

The second of this week's duo of Barn Hunt workshops was at Watercombe Dogs; the first time at this fabulous west-Dorset venue.

The dogs had a great time and all teams did brilliantly 🐶🐀

Unfortunately the July workshops are already fully booked but I'll be announcing August dates soon. Join my VIP list via my website to be one of the first to find out! 🐶

These guys all had a great time at the Barn Hunt workshops at the weekend.

We had reactive dogs, anxious dogs, high-energy dogs, and everything in between - all teams did brilliantly and had an absolute blast. Well done everyone! 🥳🐶

I'm struggling to find the words to describe just how incredible it was to watch the UK's first-ever bridleless dressage and show jumping championships at Merrist Wood at the weekend.

The level of harmony, connection and partnership between the horses and their riders was simply breathtaking.

I started riding my amazing horse, Kia, without a bridle around 25 years ago. Back then, I was laughed at, ridiculed, and even told off for how "dangerous" it was. I was told that it "wasn't how horses should be ridden", and the yard manager made it clear that I wasn't to do it again.

Since then, I've largely kept myself to myself in the horsey world. Meanwhile, my incredible, one-in-a-million horse is now 35 years old and enjoying a well-earned retirement.

When I heard about the bridleless championships, I was absolutely over the moon. I knew I had to be there, even if only as a spectator.

It was an emotional day for me because, after all this time, the world of equestrian sports is finally starting to acknowledge and celebrate the possibility of achieving incredible things with a horse through partnership rather than control. Watching horse-and-rider partnerships built on trust, communication and genuine connection take centre stage felt incredibly special.

Thank you, The Heart of Horsemanship, for having the courage and determination to challenge convention, for creating a space where these partnerships can be showcased, and for organising such a wonderful event. Seeing so many people come together to celebrate harmony between horse and rider gave me so much hope for the future.
