Keyhole surgery, all under one roof 🐾

Last Thursday Marcos performed two laparoscopic spays at Surrey Family Vets, with Emma monitoring the anaesthetic and assisting throughout the procedures.

We carry out these surgeries in-house, without the need for an external surgeon or referral. Keyhole spays involve smaller incisions, generally cause less post-operative pain and allow a faster recovery than traditional spays.

We also welcome referrals from other veterinary practices and owners who would like their pets to have a keyhole spay with us. You don’t need to be registered with Surrey Family Vets to book this procedure.

Rocky Boy recently visited us for his very first kitten vaccination💉 It was lovely to welcome him to the practice as he begins his journey to a healthy life💙

A big thank you to his new pawrent for adopting both Rocky Boy and his mum, Shakira & giving them a home together.

We’d also like to give a special mention to Byfleet Cat Rescue , a wonderful charity dedicated to helping cats in need. They rescued Shakira when she was pregnant and supported her through a difficult time, including the emergency caesarean section she needed to deliver her kittens safely.

Thanks to the care and support of the rescue, alongside Shakira’s dedicated foster mum, who has now given her a forever home, Shakira and Rocky Boy can look forward to a happy future.

We’re delighted to be part of Rocky Boy’s healthcare journey and look forward to seeing them both again😻😻

Little Fifi, just like her feline companion Sun Sun, also came to see us for a dental procedure! 🐱🦷

We would like to highlight the importance of dental X-rays, which are essential for a thorough dental assessment. They allow us to identify problems hidden below the gum line that cannot be seen during a visual examination alone.

In Fifi’s case, we found several retained root fragments and teeth affected by resorptive lesions, which can be painful. These were extracted to help keep her comfortable.

At Surrey Family Vets, dental X-rays are included in all our dental procedures, even routine scale and polish, to help ensure a thorough assessment and treatment.

Fifi recovered really well & we are delighted she’s doing well! 💖

Did you know that we offer neutering for rabbits and other exotic pets, including guinea pigs, rats and hamsters?

Meet the adorable Rocco, who recently came in for his neutering procedure and bounced back brilliantly! 🥰 We are really pleased with how well he did.

Neutering is not necessarily the right choice for every small pet, and the benefits and risks can vary between species and individuals. That is why we’re always happy to discuss the options with you and help you decide whether it is appropriate for your pet.

🐹🐰🐭 Whatever the procedure, your pet’s safety and wellbeing are always our priority. We take every precaution to ensure our little patients receive the care and attention they need before, during and after surgery. This includes:

🩺 A thorough pre-operative health assessment
💉 Carefully tailored anaesthesia and pain relief
🌡️ Close monitoring throughout anaesthesia and recovery
🧸 A warm, supportive recovery with individualised care
🌿 Careful monitoring of appetite and droppings, encouraging a return to eating as soon as possible.

Every patient is unique and we tailor our care to their individual needs to help make their experience as safe and comfortable as possible💜

Meet Ashley!

Ashley is a valued member of the Surrey Family Vets team as our Practice Administrator. Having grown up in a veterinary practice, Ashley has always had a connection to the veterinary world. She has nearly 7 years of experience in the veterinary industry, beginning her career as a student veterinary nurse before moving into the administrative side of the profession.

Ashley helps keep the practice running smoothly behind the scenes, while also supporting the team in all areas when needed. She is responsible for processing all of our insurance claims and plays an important role in keeping the day-to-day administration of the practice organised and efficient.

Outside of work, Ashley enjoys spending time in Scotland with her family. She is a big fan of spiders and is the proud owner of a pet tarantula and an Egyptian pink velvet desert spider! She also shares her home with two much-loved cats: Belochka, a Siberian Forest Cat, and Caoimhe, a Snowshoe.

Ashley is part of the Surrey Family Vets family in the truest sense- she is Emma’s daughter!

Little Momo came to see us because she had very itchy ears. When we took a cytology sample and looked at it under the microscope, we could actually see ear mites.

This is a great example of how not every ear infection is the same. Sometimes, instead of just bacteria or yeast, parasites can also be the cause. That is why ear cytology is so important. It helps us understand what is causing the problem and choose the right treatment for your pet.

If your pet is suffering from itchy ears, we are here to help. Get in touch with our friendly team to book an appointment🐾

🔎 DID YOU KNOW?

We perform ultrasound examinations in-house at Surrey Family Vets! 🐾

Using our state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, we can perform a range of detailed diagnostic examinations, including:

❤️ Cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) – detailed imaging of the heart
🩺 Abdominal ultrasound – examining organs such as the liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder and gastrointestinal tract
🦴 Musculoskeletal ultrasound – assessing joints, muscles, tendons and other soft tissues
🔬 Ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspirates (FNAs) – helping us safely obtain samples from areas of concern

And did you know that we also accept ultrasound referrals from other veterinary practices?

If your own GP vet feels your pet would benefit from an ultrasound, they can refer your pet to us. You don’t need to be a registered Surrey Family Vets client.

We can perform the imaging here and send the findings and report back to your usual vet, who can then continue your pet’s care.
