PLEASE HELP US BRING HOLLY HOME 🐾
Holly’s foster home has fallen through.
And now, more than ever, she needs someone.
Holly is still in Egypt, and she is deteriorating. She can manage only a few steps before she has to lie down and rest. Every day we wait is another day she is trying to cope in a body that desperately needs help.
Holly was found dumped on the streets.
We will never know everything that happened to her before she was rescued, but her body tells us enough.
She has suffered devastating trauma to one of her femurs. She can no longer use that hind leg and it hangs uselessly, like a dead weight she has to carry with her wherever she goes. She also has severe hip disease, so even hopping on her remaining legs is painful and exhausting.
But Holly is not a dog at the end of her life.
She is a dog waiting for the chance to begin it.
If we can get Holly to the UK, she can be seen at a specialist referral centre. We can finally find out whether her damaged leg can be saved. If it cannot, we can make the right decision for her. She may need a hip replacement. She may need surgery on the traumatised femur. She may ultimately live as a tripod. Or she may need a carefully managed, long-term pain and rehabilitation plan.
We don't yet know what Holly's future looks like.
But she deserves to have one.
What she needs first is something medicine cannot provide.
A home.
A soft bed. A quiet place to rest. Someone who doesn't mind that walks might only be a few steps at first. Someone with the time and patience to help a frightened dog learn that she doesn't have to survive anymore.
Someone who will let her finally feel safe.
Despite everything that has happened to her, Holly has the most beautiful maternal nature. She adores puppies and has taken on the role of mama dog with the little ones around her. She would be happiest living with younger, smaller female dogs rather than large males.
She can sometimes be frightened when men approach her. We can only imagine why. She needs somebody who understands that trust isn't something we can demand from a traumatised dog. It is something we earn, quietly, gently, one day at a time.
Holly does not need a perfect home.
She needs a kind one.
She needs someone prepared to love what may essentially be a three-legged dog. Someone who can see beyond the broken femur, the damaged hips and the frightened moments and see Holly.
I know there will be people who ask why we are bringing a dog from Egypt when there are dogs here in the UK desperately needing homes.
I understand that.
I also know that Holly's treatment may cost money that could potentially help several other dogs.
There is an old saying that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.
But rescue has taught me something.
The many are made up of ones.
One frightened dog lifted from a street.
One broken body given treatment.
One animal shown kindness when the world has shown them cruelty.
One life saved.
And then another.
And another.
Until one becomes a few.
And one day, those few become many.
We cannot save every dog in the world.
But for the dog we do save, we change their entire world.
Holly has already survived being abandoned, injured and left to fend for herself. She has survived pain that no animal should have had to endure. And somehow, through all of it, she has remained gentle enough to mother puppies who need her.
Now Holly needs someone to mother her.
Please help me get her out of Egypt.
Please help me bring Holly to the UK, get her the specialist care she desperately needs, and give this beautiful girl the chance to discover what life was supposed to feel like.
We need an experienced foster home or, even better, Holly's forever person.
If you cannot offer Holly a home, please share her story.
Somewhere, the person she has been waiting for may simply not have seen her yet.
Holly has spent long enough surviving.
Now she deserves to live. ❤️
