🐶 Patient of the Week: Meet Daphne! 🐾
We have an extra special Patient of the Week to share with you all!
Meet adorable 2-year-old Daphne, a Parson Jack Russell who paid us a visit today. Daphne came in to see us for an a**l gland flush after experiencing a bit of discomfort recently.
Even though coming to the vet for a treatment isn't usually on a pup’s favorite list, Daphne was absolute perfection! She was the sweetest girl ever and kept everyone smiling with non-stop tail wags. Naturally, our team gave her tons of cuddles and love in return! 💕
💡 Vet Health Corner: What Are A**l Glands?
A**l glands are two small sacs located on either side of a dog's bottom (at roughly the 4 and 8 o'clock positions). They produce a strongly scented fluid that acts as a natural "scent signature" when dogs greet each other or mark territory.
Normally, these sacs empty automatically when a dog passes a firm stool. However, if they get blocked, inflamed, or infected, your pup may need a little help from us!
🚨 Signs Your Dog Might Have A**l Gland Issues:
Scooting:
Dragging their bottom along the carpet or ground
Licking or Biting: Excessive focus on their tail or rear end
Discomfort: Whining, struggling to sit, or tail-tucking
Unusual Odor: A strong, fishy smell
If left untreated, impacted glands can lead to painful abscesses or infections. A gentle expression or flushing (just like sweet Daphne had today) can bring fast relief and keep your pet comfortable!
Sending big hugs and healthy wishes to this brave little girl!🦴✨
