Meet Dexter 🐾

Dexter visits us every month to help manage his arthritis through hydrotherapy. When he first started, swimming wasn’t his favourite activity, but with time, patience and plenty of encouragement, his confidence has grown enormously.

Now he happily takes to the water and thoroughly enjoys his sessions, especially when his favourite squeaky eggs are involved! 🥚💦

It’s been wonderful to see his progress and watch him become so comfortable in the pool 🩵

We’re definitely not saying dogs can’t enjoy a swim in lakes or rivers 🐶💦
For many dogs it’s great fun and lovely enrichment!

But if your dog needs rehab, muscle building or support with arthritis/injuries, it’s important to know that it’s not the same as hydrotherapy treatment.

Hydrotherapy is warm, controlled and tailored specifically to your dog’s needs, whereas rivers and lakes can come with risks like cold water, currents, slippery surfaces and overdoing it.

If you are taking your dog swimming outdoors, a few simple precautions can make a big difference:
🐾 Check for blue-green algae warnings
🐾 Avoid fast-moving water and steep exits
🐾 Rinse dogs off after swimming
🐾 Use a dog buoyancy aid if needed
🐾 Keep sessions short with plenty of rest
🐾 Avoid the hottest parts of the day

And remember keeping dogs cool doesn’t always have to mean swimming! Shade, paddling pools, cooling mats, frozen treats, enrichment games indoors, and gentle hydrotherapy sessions can all help keep dogs safe and comfortable during warmer weather 🩵

Every dog is different, and what feels fun for one may be too much for another. Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine ☀️

🐾 It’s Arthritis Awareness Month 🐾

When people think of arthritis, they often think of humans…
But our dogs can suffer too.

Arthritis in dogs is incredibly common, and often goes unnoticed.

You might see:
• Slowing down on walks
• Difficulty getting up or lying down
• Reluctance to jump or use stairs
• Stiffness, especially after rest

These signs aren’t “just old age” they can be indicators of pain.

💛 This month, we want to shine a light on canine arthritis and help more dogs get the support they deserve.

If something feels different about your dog, trust your instincts as early support can make a huge difference to their comfort and quality of life.

Is your dog slowing down with age? 🐾

Stiffness, reduced mobility, and discomfort are common as our dogs get older, but they don’t have to just “put up with it.”

Laser therapy is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that helps to:
✨ Reduce inflammation
✨ Ease joint pain
✨ Improve mobility
✨ Support overall comfort and quality of life

Perfect for senior dogs or those showing signs of age-related stiffness, it’s a safe way to help them stay active, happy, and enjoying the things they love.

If you’ve noticed your dog hesitating on walks, struggling to get up, or just not quite themselves, it might be time to explore how laser therapy could help.

Don’t ignore these coat changes…

Changes in coat condition can sometimes be an early sign that something isn’t quite right, including pain or underlying health issues.

Here are a few things to watch for:
• Dullness – A lack of shine can be linked to poor nutrition or underlying conditions
• Dry, brittle fur or breakage – May indicate nutrient deficiencies or hormonal imbalances
• Heavy or unusual shedding – Changes from your dog’s normal pattern can signal stress, discomfort, or illness
• Changes in coat pattern or texture – Sometimes these can reflect underlying muscle issues or dysfunction
• Overall coat health – A healthy coat should be soft, glossy, and free from bald patches, scabs, or excessive dandruff

Dogs in pain may also groom themselves less, which can quickly impact coat condition.

If you’ve noticed a change in your dog’s coat, don’t ignore it as early intervention can make all the difference 💛

Rehab isn’t just about recovery—it’s about helping senior dogs stay independent.

Everyday things like toileting, managing stairs, getting onto the sofa, eating comfortably, picking up treats or toys, and enjoying walks can become difficult with age.

With the right support, these small but important activities become easier again—supporting confidence, comfort, and quality of life. 💛
