At Hambleton Equine Clinic, our entire focus is on horses 🐴

As an equine-only practice, every member of our team, from our vets and nurses to our yard staff and reception, works exclusively with horses, ponies and donkeys. That specialist focus means a deeper understanding of equine health, behaviour and the specific challenges horses face at every stage of life.

Whether you own a competition horse, a leisure horse or a retired companion, you're in the right hands.

We understand that having a horse stay in hospital can be a worrying time for owners 🐴

At Hambleton Equine Clinic, horses are cared for in spacious, comfortable stabling and monitored around the clock by our nursing and vet team. For high-dependency cases, our interns are on site overnight to ensure continuous supervision.

We make it a priority to keep owners informed throughout their horse's stay, because good communication is just as important as good clinical care.

Strangles is one of the most contagious equine diseases and it can spread quickly through a yard, but the good news is that there’s a vaccination. 🐴

Caused by the bacterium Streptococcus equi, it most commonly causes a high temperature, nasal discharge and painful swelling of the lymph nodes beneath the jaw. Affected horses are often reluctant to eat or drink due to the discomfort.

If you suspect strangles on your yard, isolate the affected horse straight away and call your vet before moving any horses on or off the premises.

We recommend that horses are vaccinated to prevent the risk of catching strangles. Please speak to our team if you'd like to know more.

Some horses need more than routine dental care, and our team has the expertise and equipment to help 🦷

Our advanced dental services include tooth extractions and the management of more complex conditions such as EOTRH (Equine Odontoclastic Tooth Resorption and Hypercementosis), which requires specialist knowledge and equipment to diagnose and treat effectively.

Having both a vet with a Certificate in Equine Dentistry and a qualified Equine Dental Technician on our team means complex cases can be managed right here in North Yorkshire.

If you're concerned about your horse's teeth, our team is happy to advise.

Did you know that horses can have an MRI scan without a general anaesthetic? 🐴

Our Hallmarq standing equine MRI system allows us to scan your horse while they're standing under sedation, removing the risks associated with a full anaesthetic and making the process much more straightforward for horse and owner alike.

MRI provides detailed images of the structures of the lower limb and is particularly valuable in diagnosing foot pain, navicular disease and soft tissue injuries. Most scans take between two and four hours, and a detailed specialist report is produced within two to three days.

If you think your horse may benefit from an MRI, speak to your vet or contact us directly.
