Marley and me... we've only known each other a few days π
Yesterday was his third walk with me and the excited greeting I got made my day! π₯Ή It's lovely seeing that bond start to build.
Getting to know a new dog takes time, and it's all about learning their little quirks, understanding what makes them tick and helping them feel comfortable with you.
At 9 months old, Marley is full of fun and puppy energy. He loves sniffing everything, popping up on his back legs when something catches his eye, and jumping up for a quick hello. We also have to try and say hello to every bird we pass! ππ¦
Thursday also meant time with sisters Izzy and Sophie πΎ Whenever I unclip dogs at the start of an off-lead walk, I always practise a quick recall. These two are pros β¦ although Sophie does sometimes like to take a few extra seconds, just to make sure she's finished what she's doing first! π
And then there's Tilly, my weekly dose of sweetness π She's a 12 month old Jackapoo - small but mighty! She can sometimes feel a little unsure on walks, so I always take things at her pace. If she'd rather turn around and head back, then that's what we do. For me, it's important that she knows she can take her time and that I'll listen to her π©·
Because dog walking isn't just about the walk itself. It's about getting to know each dog, building trust, understanding their needs and letting them be themselves.
And watching those little bonds grow along the way is one of the loveliest parts of my job π
