Alexandra's Practically Pawfect Training and behaviour support and transformation on a 1:1 basis. Qualified Scentwork UK Trainer and Judge for Tier 1. Based in Bexley, Kent I’m Alexandra.

From a tiny child, I was always fascinated by animals and their behaviour. I grew up surrounded by animals of all different species including dogs, cats, bunnies and many more. I always knew I was destined to be involved with animals and their families. I’ve been involved in dog training since I was a young teenager and have lived in a multi-dog household since then. Each of my dogs have taught me so much and shaped who I am, what I know about dogs and how I choose to train and interact with animals and their families. I have spent vast amounts of time learning through a variety of courses, books and hands on experience and am committed to always learning more. I spend most of my days training, walking and looking after animals (mainly dogs but also other animals) and love every minute of it. In terms of dog training, I offer reward-based training on a one to one basis and love seeing the relationship build between dogs and their owners. There's so much information around about dogs and dog behaviour out there, it can be difficult to know how and where to start. One of my aims as a dog trainer is to help people to find the information and answers they are looking for. Also, to help them move towards the life they planned to have when they chose to add a dog to their family

I know that everyone and their pets’ needs will be different. That is why everything I offer is bespoke and designed to suit what is needed. Bespoke in person training options
Online training options
Solo or small group dog walks
In house visits or pet sitting

Happy 1st Gotcha day, little one 💙

A year ago today, Phoenix came in to our home.

A tornado of mischief, energy and fully ready to shake things up. And that he most definitely has.

I didn't know if it was the right decision.

But, I knew that I'd always wonder if he didn't come to us.

Already been through so much when he came to us at only 6 weeks old, I knew he needed someone who'd fight for him and I knew we would do that.

He's a complicated little guy, our time together has absolutely had its challenges. But, I'm so proud of how far we've come together and who he is growing up to be.

Let's see where we can go next x

Every loss deserves to be honoured.

Whenever a loss happens, either to my own family or those I work with, I always mark their passing in some way. As each and every one is special.

She's going to expect this VIP treatment from everyone now.

During our sessions together, when Xena comes with me, we have a clear rule that food only comes from their own people.

That rule changes once their dog is back on their own car.

Which is when Xena gets to have some of their treats, and she leaps at the opportunity

Many people struggle with this, but it doesn't need to be that way.

Grooming our dogs, vet visits, and nail trims can all leave us with a feeling of dread, but it doesn't have to.

As part of our work together, we've been working on some cooperative care, opt-in, and opt-out behaviours and vet prep to make these kinds of things less stressful for all involved.

We started out with teaching a solid chin behaviour - his chin to hand initially, and now we've transferred the behaviour to another object to open up options for how we use it.

We've been building it as an 'opt-in' behaviour. At any time, him removing his chin, backing off, in any way, and everything stops.

Here's a snippet of his 'chin' opt-in behaviour to another object (little table) and some grooming, too.

We've added in:

- Including his legs into the grooming and handling (historically a tricky area for him)

- Mixing up where his human is in relation to him so that his whole body will be reachable for different scenarios

Part of the plan is that we can use these types of behaviours for:

🐾 Vet visits
🐾 Grooming
🐾 Eye and ear care
🐾 Nail care

And more

A rare picture of us all together ❤️

It's long overdue time that I told you all more about us, and the reasons that Alexandra's Practically Pawfect came to be as well as what we do.

For now, I thought I'd properly introduce the four paws I share my home with, though they all need their own intro posts as well.

My four little rescues, all different backgrounds, breeds, and personalities. One of the things they've all got in common is that they keep me on my toes.

We have Rio, Xena, Phoenix, and Aura, ranging from a year old up to just shy of 15.

When people hear I've got 4 dogs, they are often surprised. But, what a lot of people don't realise is that four is on the lower end of the number of dogs I've had at any one point. At one stage, I had 6 dogs and a cat (who thought he was a dog), and earlier than that, I grew up sharing my home with many rescues at once. Though this quartet do their best to keep me busy

Student spotlight ✨️

When we first started working together, he was so scared of me that we had the full works - barking, grumbling, and skittering away.

With some time, patience, and no small amount of food, we've been slowly but surely growing his confidence around me. And he's been coming on in leaps and bounds.

And just look at that 'I'm working hard at school' face 🥰
