This isn’t something we here at Arena UK would normally post on our social media.
As a family, we are very private, and we choose not to respond publicly to posts complaining about our venue. We quietly take comments on board and try to make sure that isn’t the experience you have next time, or look at what we can do to improve the things you feel aren’t quite right.
We don’t publicly moan when things get broken, damaged or even stolen. We don’t post about the state our showers and toilets are sometimes left in. We clean it up, fix it and carry on.
But today, we experienced something that genuinely broke our hearts and our spirit.
A competitor staying on site at a show we are hosting for a showing society thought it was acceptable to walk over to the gateway of the paddocks where we turn out our own horses, defecate there, use our horses’ hosepipe to wash themselves afterwards, and then simply walk away — leaving it for us to find and clean up.
Come on, people.
Please remember that venues like Arena UK aren’t just businesses. They are our livelihoods, but they are also our homes.
We put our blood, sweat and tears into this place. We work incredibly hard to keep it as clean, tidy and welcoming as we possibly can for everyone who comes through our gates.
We understand that when thousands of people visit, things get messy. Things get broken. Accidents happen. We accept that as part of what we do.
But this wasn’t an accident.
It was a complete lack of respect for our venue, our animals and the people who have to clean up afterwards.
We really shouldn’t have to ask this, but please — treat our home with the same basic respect you would expect someone to show yours.
