There were zoomies. There was mud. There was wrestling. There were faces that no dog should realistically be able to pull. 😂🥴🫨😵‍💫🫪🤪

The best part? Despite all the rough-and-tumble, everyone checked in beautifully, took treats politely and finished the session as happy friends.

Safe to say there will be some very sleepy dogs this afternoon. ❤️🐾

🐾 Mud, Zoomies & Tired Paws 🐾

No dramatic deer chases, unexpected swimming lessons or shopping trips today.

Just Apollo, Gareth and Bandit enjoying a very soggy, muddy stomp around Alver Valley Country Park. 🌿🐕

Gareth brought enough energy for the entire group (and then some). He was absolutely everywhere today — charging about, investigating every scent and generally living life at 100mph. 🚀🐾

Apollo enjoyed practising his manners and recall work, while Bandit was his usual sensible self, happy to mooch along and keep an eye on proceedings. Having sporadic zoomie seshes when the mood hit.

By the end of the hour, even Gareth had finally run out of steam and was looking suitably pleased with himself for a job well done. 😴🐶

Muddy paws. Happy dogs. Tired legs.
Exactly how a good walk should end. ❤️🐾

Have you ever had one of these days?
..We parked up at Brockhurst Gate Retail Park and started our walk as normal....Bella was being tested on a drop lead with a 5m long line & was doing so well that I thought I'd risk unclipping her and attaching the long line to Gareth instead.

WELL, Bella immediately interpreted this as:
"FREEDOM!".. & promptly took herself off to Jollyes for some snacks. 🛒🐕

Meanwhile, Gareth discovered that Fort Brockhurst has a moat. 🤦‍♀️ (Unfortunately, he discovered this by falling into it).

So, Gareth's day went from:

"Aww, what a lovely walk with friends."

to

"WHY IS THE FLOOR WET?!"

in approximately 0.3 seconds. 🤣

The shock on his face suggested he had absolutely no idea water was involved until he was already fully committed... He realised his mistake immediately and exited the moat with impressive urgency and a deep sense of regret. 😅💦👌

(Obviously, everyone was located, recovered and accounted for) ...

✅ Bella was dragged away from her retail adventure. Much to her disgust.
✅ Gareth survived his unexpected swimming lesson.
✅ Bandit managed to avoid both incidents.
✅ & Apollo somehow ended up being one of the sensible ones?!

❌ My heart rate, however, may never recover. 🥴

Both Bella and Gareth completed the remainder of the walk tethered firmly to myself, as it would appear neither are quite ready for independent decision-making, just yet. 😅🐾

It's honestly mental how much can happen in a single hour-long walk sometimes! ❤️🐶🐾

One of the biggest things I'm teaching Apollo right now isn't how to play with every dog he meets... it's how to ignore them. 🐾

At just 4 months old, Apollo is in a critical learning period where every experience helps shape the dog he'll become.

Many people think socialisation means meeting as many dogs and people as possible. In reality, good socialisation is about helping a dog learn that the world isn't something they need to react to.
Sometimes our training looks exciting. Sometimes it looks incredibly boring.

✨ Sitting and watching people walk past.
✨ Observing dogs from a distance.
✨ Learning that bicycles, children, runners and traffic are just part of everyday life.
✨ Practising calm behaviour instead of rushing over to investigate everything.

The goal isn't to create a dog that wants to interact with everyone.
The goal is to create a dog that can confidently move through the world without feeling the need to greet every person, chase every squirrel, or play with every dog they see.

Apollo is still very much a puppy, and like any youngster he occasionally forgets this and gets distracted by absolutely everything. But every calm observation, every successful check-in, and every moment of neutrality is helping build the foundations for the adult dog he'll one day become. ❤️

The same principle applies to all of the dogs I walk, regardless of age. Confidence isn't built through constant interaction; it's built through learning that the world is a safe and predictable place.
Sometimes the most important lessons happen when nothing exciting happens at all. 🐾

🐕 "Right everyone, follow me. I have spotted a deer." 🦌

Bella: "Adventure awaits."
Apollo: "Sounds legitimate."
Bandit: "I don't know what's happening, but I'm coming too."
Gareth: "I'd love to join the rebellion, but unfortunately I'm attached to management."

Bella briefly promoted herself from pack member to pack leader today after spotting a deer in the long grass... The rest of the gang naturally assumed she knew what she was doing and disappeared off on an unscheduled wildlife expedition. 🦌👀

Recall took a little longer than I'd have liked, but thankfully the whole tribe returned safe, sound and very pleased with themselves. 🙈

I, however, was not invited on the adventure and spent several minutes standing alone in a field whistling like an absolute bellend while awaiting the return of my missing explorers. 🤦‍♀️🐾
..& then five minutes later they all came trotting back out of the grass looking thoroughly pleased with themselves, as if they'd simply popped off for a quick team meeting?!

"What? We were only gone a minute." 😇 👀

"Barking Mad" sounds fitting... Any others?
..Apollo's been working on his vocals... trust me
🔊🫨👌 he's ready to take the lead with his array of noises... think Death Metal meets Opera 😳

It's an eclectic taste... I'll give you that 😅🙈

Apollo didn't have any other dogs to walk this weekend
(I try not to work weekends — that's family time ❤️).

But not wanting to miss out completely, Apollo found this rather fetching stick and proudly carried it around the park like he had an important job to do. 🤣👌

🐾 Explorers, Supervisors & Selective Hearing 🐾

Yesterday's crew enjoyed an adventure around The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Park, home to the impressive Gate Guardian Sculpture - an eight-metre-high depiction of Daedalus, the skilled craftsman and inventor from Greek mythology. As the father of Icarus, Daedalus is best known for creating the wings that allowed them to take flight, making the sculpture a fitting landmark for an area so closely connected to aviation history. 🪽

⭐ Bella did brilliantly on her drop lead trial today. Her listening skills were excellent... right up until other dogs appeared and suddenly she couldn't hear a thing. 👀😂 Something we'll keep working on, but overall she made some fantastic choices.

⭐ Athena earned some extra freedom in the enclosed paddock and proved she could be trusted, enjoying a good sniff and explore with her friends. 🩷

⭐ Apollo continued his self-appointed role as Employee of the Month, ensuring everyone followed procedure and maintaining high standards throughout the walk. His payment remains treats and scritches. 🏆🤣 (will take a trip to The Dogs Choice later).

⭐ Bandit was, unsurprisingly, busy conducting his own independent investigations and checking every interesting smell he could find. 🕵️‍♂️🐾

A lovely walk with four very different personalities, plenty of sniffing, exploring and some beautiful views along the way. ❤️🐾

🏆 Employee of the Month: APOLLO 🏆

Apollo took his responsibilities very seriously today...

We trialled Bella on a drop lead and she absolutely smashed it... (unless there were other dogs around. Then the selective hearing kicked in). 👀😂
Something to work on, but overall she did brilliantly. ❤️

Apollo, however, felt it was his duty to supervise proceedings, maintain standards, and ensure Bella stayed focused on the task at hand...

For his outstanding commitment to workplace excellence, Apollo has been awarded Employee of the Month. 😜

His requested bonus package consists entirely of treats, scritches and being told he's a good boy. 🤣👌🐾

Management has approved his request. 💚🐾

🐾 Three dogs. One puddle. Zero regrets. 👀🐾

Today's crew consisted of Bandit, Apollo and Gareth - who all agreed that muddy puddles were far more interesting than staying clean.

Apollo & Bandit spent most of the walk charging around the field, enjoying plenty of zoomies, wrestling and chase games, while Gareth fully embraced his inner happy hippo and committed himself to a rather enthusiastic spa day. 🦛😂

After discovering a perfectly good muddy patch, Gareth didn't settle for a splash or a paddle...
He went straight for the full mud facial. 👀🤦‍♀️😂

B-E-A-U-TIFUL 🤣👌

As the excitement levels started creeping up, Apollo and Gareth took a quick timeout for some decompression, treats and a few training exercises before we headed back to the car.

Keeping play fun and appropriate is just as important as letting dogs enjoy themselves. 💚

Once Gareth's luxury treatment had dried into something suspiciously similar to concrete, a brush-down became mandatory & he was absolutely living his best life; fully expecting the grooming session to continue indefinitely. 😂

Gareth: happy hippo 🦛

Apollo & Bandit: bath-bound 🛁🫧

Me: questioning my life choices while hoovering mud out of the car. 🐾😂💚

Safe to say all three had a fantastic time.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dogs' rating of today's adventure
⭐️ My car's rating
10/10 walk. 0/10 cleanliness.

BUT, would absolutely do it again. 😂🐾💚
