Midges are now active, and with warmer weather the bluetongue virus is replicating more rapidly. As temperatures rise, the risk of infected midges spreading further north increases.
๐ Vaccination remains the most effective way to protect your animals from bluetongue.
๐ Movement requirements differ between England, Scotland and Wales:
โ
England & Wales
โข No licence or pre-movement testing currently required for animal movements.
โข A licence and testing are still required for the freezing of germinal products (semen, ova and embryos).
โ ๏ธ Scotland (new restrictions effective from 1 June)
โข A General Licence (EXD608) and proforma declaration (EXD645) are required.
โข Cattle must either:
Be fully vaccinated with Bultavo-3 at least 21 days before movement, or
Have a negative PCR blood test within 7 days of movement.
โข Sheep require a negative pre-movement blood test within 7 days of movement.
Before moving livestock, ensure you understand the latest requirements for your destination and discuss vaccination options with your vet.
