There is something I really feel needs to be said from professional dog walkers - unfortunately in the past month i have seen at least 5 dog walkers close their business due to a number of reasons . One reason I have heard from each and everyone of them is "The inconsistent wage , the heatwaves has made it impossible to pay my bills let alone myself"
Today on my first group walk i passed a lady who in passing conversation said to me " I bet you dog walkers are loving not having to work"
I feel the need to remind everyone this is our JOB our full time job, the way we pay our bills , feed our families and somehow pay ourselves. The past couple of months have been TOUGH for every dog walker I have spoken to - we all have mortgages or rent to pay , some have children. This is NOT a hobby this is a business we put all of our love and passion into! The next time your dog walker has to change the schedule to keep your dogs safe we are not doing it for an easy life, belive me we are in the group chats we have stressing about how we will fit all the let out visits in, or that we will be earning a grand total of £30 today. We put everything we have into our jobs to give the best care we could possibly give to all of the animals we love ❤️ vans are expensive, crash tested crates are expensive , but all worth it to keep them safe 🐾 in less words - appreciate your dog walkers in the heatwaves , the rainstorms, the snow ! 🫶🐾✨️

🐶USE US. DON’T LOSE US.🐶

One thing we’d love more pet owners to understand during a heatwave is this.

When we cancel because of extreme temperatures, we’re not having a day off.

We’re losing income.

Most professional pet carers are self-employed. We don’t receive holiday pay, sick pay or a guaranteed salary at the end of the month. If we don’t work, we don’t get paid.

Every cancelled walk, training session or visit has a financial impact.

And this isn’t just one hot afternoon.

Many of us are now dealing with repeated heatwaves and some of the hottest, longest periods of extreme heat we’ve experienced in our working lives. Week after week, bookings are cancelled, diaries are rearranged and income falls, while our mortgages, rent, insurance, vehicle costs and business bills remain exactly the same.

Despite that, we’ll continue to make the same decision every time.

Because our first responsibility is the welfare of the animals in our care.

A postponed walk can be rearranged.

Heatstroke doesn’t always give your dog a second chance.

So, if your usual service isn’t safe, please don’t assume we can’t help.

Instead of cancelling altogether, ask whether your booking can be adapted.

That might mean:
• A home welfare visit
• Toilet breaks
• Feeding and companionship
• Garden enrichment and play
• Medication administration
• An early morning or late evening walk where conditions are safe

You’ll still receive professional care.

Your pet stays safe.

And you’ll be helping a local small business survive another week of extreme weather.

Use us. Don’t lose us.

The service may look different for a few days, but our commitment to your pet never changes.

Thank you to every client who understands that responsible pet care sometimes means changing the plan, not abandoning it.

Hi everyone!

I hope you’ve been surviving in this awful heatwave 🥵

Just a couple of things from me….firstly thank you so much for your flexibility this week with either early woodland walks, cancelled walks or home visits. It’s not something I do lightly as it significantly impacts my income plus I hate letting anyone down, but the dogs safety is my priority and their welfare comes first. I don’t think I’d like to be out in it, let alone the doggies in their fur coats 🥺.

Secondly please see the photo below of my Tilly wearing her summer accessory - a bell 🔔 - I put these bells on my girls each year to help protect them from adders. Adders are rife at the moment and I think we’re in for a hot hot summer! The bell gives the snake a heads up that someone is coming, and being naturally shy they should retreat when they hear it, so the bell acts as a warning. It may just give the dog a couple of life saving seconds to not come into contact with an adder.
Yes we sound like Santa’s sleigh and his reindeer but that’s ok!!
Just a thought if anyone didn’t know this, it could just save a dogs life!

Lastly we are coming home often with ticks 🕷️. Even though you treat your dog they can still latch on before the treatment gets to work, so please check your dog after every walk and keep up to date with your flea and tick preventative as they are everywhere at the moment!
As well as an oral flea/tick preventative I’ve also started spraying my girls with a natural repellent before each walk in the hope to deter ticks from jumping on them!

This time of year really is unpleasant 😅

Thank you as always for your support. I can’t believe it’s been 9 years this August since I’ve been walking your pups!! How time flies.
