🐾 ADOPTION READY – CLARK 🐾

Meet Clark, a chunky, cheeky boy with a big personality and an even bigger appetite!

Clark is friendly, enjoys attention and doesn’t mind being picked up (as long as cuddles are involved), and will happily let you know when he wants fuss even though he looks mildly unimpressed most of the time 😂. He also loves playing with balls and tunnels, although your ankles might occasionally get caught in the action (no claws though… usually 🤭)

We estimate Clark is around 5 years old. As he came to us as a stray, he can be upset when in a new environment so we expect he will need time and space to adjust to a new home. Someone that won't expect him to feel immediately at home or immediately be affectionate would be ideal. It's going to be a big scary thing to go to a new place and he won't necessarily understand at first what home means 🏡 ❤️

Clark would suit a quiet home with no other pets or children, where he can enjoy a peaceful life and plenty of attention.

He has been with us for a little while now, and quite frankly, he’s ready for his next adventure. He’s not overly impressed with his current accommodation and has informed us that there simply isn’t enough attention to go around. He would very much pre-fur his forever family to hurry up and come whisk him away 🏡 ❤️

One of our vet practices recently bore the brunt of the emergency care needed for several poorly kittens, and they have worked their socks off with us to bring some of the very sickest through the worst of it. Leadon Vale Veterinary Centre should be so proud of their team and the amazing things they’ve managed to pull off lately!

This particular case highlights their latest achievements. This tiny orphaned kitten is severely underweight and he crashed, hypothermic and hypoglycaemic. The New Start team pulled together to get the kitten to Leadon Vale and it was in the nick of time! Had it been even ten minutes longer, it would have been too late. Vets and vet nurses worked to stabilise him right away, getting him warm first and checking his glucose levels. They needed to bring his blood sugar levels back up to normal.

Having no glucose supplements to hand they scoured the practice for substitutes and Helen (Practice Manager) donated some of her strawberry jam. This was rubbed into his gums to let him safely absorb the sugars, which started to bring him round. Sarah (Lead RVN) had only the week before discovered a creative way of using suction catheters as feeding tubes for our smaller kittens, which was again a lifesaver here. However, even with consistent feeds his blood glucose still kept dropping too low, so Lisa (Clinical Nursing Manager and RVN) figured out how to keep his nutrition even more consistent. An IV bag was emptied and refilled with formula milk, attached to the feeding tube, and then a drip pump controlled a steady flow of formula directly through the tube and into his stomach!

Finally he was stabilised, and he was able to be discharged for the weekend. Still pretty critical, he became one of my emergency fosters so he could take advantage of my hotel suite (my home incubator) to ensure he stayed warm, and so I could continue tube feeding him safely. Today he was delivered back to the vets for more TLC and a blood test and is again benefitting from their excellent care. He’s not even close to out of the woods yet, but we’re keeping absolutely everything crossed he’ll pull through!

Double whammy - we're running out of both cat and kitten food!

If anyone can help us out with feeding out cats we'd super appreciate you. If you have spare food at home your cats won't eat anymore we'd love it - dry food can be opened already! 🐾ADOPTION READY - MANDY🐾

Mandy is a gorgeous girl, just over a year old. She is neutered, fully vaccinated and ready to find a loving home of her own.

Full of fun and character, Mandy loves to play, climb, watch TV and zoom around chasing flies! She has a playful, curious side and will keep you entertained with her antics.

Mandy had a difficult start in life as a street cat , so she can still be a little timid and shy around strangers. Sudden movements can make her nervous, and she’ll need a patient, understanding home where she can settle in at her own pace. But once she learns to trust you, you’ll discover a very loving girl who will come when called, curl up on your lap and happily soak up all the strokes and affection you can give her.

And there’s one very important thing to know about Mandy: she LOVES chicken! She even knows the word for it. So, shhh… don’t mention chicken unless you’re prepared to share! 🍗

🏥 A little about Mandy’s health:

When Mandy was small, she caught a virus that many cats recover from completely. Unfortunately, Mandy has been left with some residual effects. She is currently well and has been checked and cleared by the vet, although there is a possibility she may need treatment in the future.

To give her new family extra peace of mind, Mandy will come with four weeks of free Petplan insurance, as all our cats do. This covers illness and injury, but any treatment relating to her previous virus will be excluded from the policy.

Mandy poses no risk to other cats, provided they are fully vaccinated.

This gorgeous girl deserves a home where she can feel safe, build her confidence and discover just how wonderful life can be. With a little patience, lots of love and perhaps the occasional piece of chicken, she could become the most rewarding little companion.
