Happy National Mutt Day! (Yesterday)

When I received you on 31st January 2025, and you were handed over to me with the most feral/rabid look I’ve seen in a dog, I thought oh dear what have I done 😳 but very quickly you slotted into my life like you never had not been there.

From that day, it took you a few weeks to settle but I got you into a routine and introduced you to life like it was your socialisation period. I truly think this is why you have done as well as you have done with the transition. Some rescue rehomes take years to even go outside for a walk, I see these stories a bunch online. Yes, there are severe trauma cases whereby the dog is entirely shut down for years, but a lot of the time, owners don’t wish to push their dog any further than the dog wants to go. It’s all about balance, putting your dog through a little pressure or stress in certain scenerios could be the difference between the dog coming out of the survival mindset to them being open to accepting all the things you can offer in their new life. It’s about give and take with the dog - letting the dog tell you their limits and you helping them through fears.

This dog reminds me everyday is a fresh new day and he is ready to do whatever I wish to do. I am truly blessed. You have given me more than I will ever give you 💓♥️
