☀️ Hot Weather & Your Pets – Keep Them Safe! ☀️
With temperatures rising, it’s important to remember that our dogs and cats can struggle in the heat just as much as we do – and sometimes even more.
🌡️ Signs your pet may be overheating:
• Excessive panting or drooling
• Lethargy or weakness
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Bright red gums or tongue
• Collapse (this is an emergency)
💧 Top tips to keep your pets cool:
• Always provide plenty of fresh, cool water
• Keep pets in shaded, well-ventilated areas indoors
• Walk dogs early morning or late evening when it’s cooler
• Avoid hot pavements (if you can’t hold your hand on it for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for paws!)
• Use cooling mats, damp towels, or paddling pools to help regulate body temperature
• Never leave pets in a parked car – even for a few minutes
🐶🐱 Helping them cool down safely:
If your pet seems too warm, you can:
• Move them to a cool area
• Offer small amounts of water
• Use cold water to cool them – especially on paws, belly, and underarms
• Avoid ice-cold water as this can cause shock
🚑 When to contact the vets:
Heatstroke can develop quickly and is life-threatening. If your pet is showing any worrying signs, contact your vet immediately – early intervention is key.
