Tommy arrived with us a couple of weeks ago in a very sorry state. He was badly in need of dental treatment, but was too weak for immediate surgery.
He also bore many battle scars from years of fighting.
We took him straight to the vets.
He was started on antibiotics, and the plan was to improve his overall health before he underwent his dental procedure.
Unfortunately, our plans were turned upside down on Thursday morning when we entered the cattery and discovered that Tommy had developed a huge swelling under his chin.
He was rushed to Knox & Devlin, where he underwent emergency surgery to drain a large abscess and he had all of his teeth removed. We hoped this would finally put him on the road to recovery.
Sadly, when Tommy returned to the vets for a check-up on Friday, a small hole had opened beneath his chin and the surrounding skin had started to become necrotic.
He was prescribed additional antibiotics, but the infection needed to be brought under control before surgery could be performed to remove the damaged tissue.
The wound deteriorated rapidly, growing larger hour by hour.
By Saturday we were seriously worried, so Tommy was rushed to Petmedics in Worsley, He was prescribed a second antibiotic and a specialist antibacterial spray.
The spray was applied every two to three hours alongside two strong antibiotics, anti inflammatory medication, and powerful pain relief.
Thankfully, the infection now appears to be slowing. Tommy is due to be checked again tomorrow at Knox & Devlin and, all being well, will undergo reconstructive surgery on Tuesday with George. 🙏🏻🤞🏻
Tommy has been through so much already, but he continues to show incredible strength.
He is also the sweetest natured boy.
Thank you to everyone who has supported him and followed his journey so far.
Your kind messages and donations mean the world to us and him.
Please keep Tommy in your thoughts as he continues his fight to recover.❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
