I frequently read comments from people suggesting vets are trying to rip them off.
However, as someone who uses an independently owned vet practice, this is just not something I have experienced.
Here's what I have experienced.
✅️ Health checks, diagnostic tests, consultations, surgery, dental care and health care from experienced, qualified professionals supported by a huge team of people.
✅️ Quick access to appointments when my dogs have been ill.
✅️ Medication in stock and available when my dogs need it.
✅️ In house diagnostic testing, blood samples, ultra sound, x-ray etc.
None of this is cheap to buy or maintain.
It can feel frustrating when vets have to follow procedures set out by governing bodies that mean you have to pay for consultations you'd rather not have. That's not your vet's fault.
One of my dog is very ill at the moment. He has to have specialist food. While waiting for the vets to receive the delivery of his food, i researched how much it would cost to buy online. It is eye watering!!
When I went to collect the bag, you cannot imagine my relief to discover the food is significantly cheaper than buying it online.
