A non animal related post today but equally as important!

🚴‍♀️ 🚴‍♂️ 🚴

You will occasionally see Vet Courtney cycling to and from work. Courtney is about to take part in Glasgow’s Tour de 4 on September 6th, in the 63km cycle.

This is all to raise funds for a very important cause, Prostate cancer UK. Each year, thousands of dads, grandads, brothers, partners and friends lose their lives to prostate cancer. It is something that has affected many family members within our team.

Prostate cancer is the only major cancer without a mass screening programme and that needs to change.

A tale that started in the garden… 🌿🐾

When Odin started frequently gulping and retching, his owner quickly recognised the signs of a possible grass blade stuck at the back of his throat.

Odin was brought to us promptly, where he received a thorough clinical examination and a short general anaesthetic. We were able to carefully remove the offending grass blade with forceps.

And it was a whopping 15cm long! 😳🌱

Grass blades can be a relatively common problem in outdoor cats and, if lodged in the throat, can cause above symptoms plus repeated sneezing, pawing at the mouth and going off their food.

Thankfully, Odin has made a full recovery and is now back to his usual self - back in the garden causing plenty of mischief! 💚🐈‍⬛

Meet Charlie 🐾

Last, but certainly not least, is Charlie.

Charlie has returned from teaching skiing in Japan over the winter months, and we’re delighted to have him back with the team this year.

An Ayrshire lad through and through, Charlie enjoys every aspect of small animal practice and is always willing to turn his hand to whatever is needed. He has a wicked sense of humour and a knack for lifting everyone’s spirits. His warm, friendly nature also makes him a favourite with our student vets and work experience pupils.

Meet Elisa 🐾

Elisa joined us part-time while raising a busy four-year-old and caring for her handsome German Wirehaired Pointer at home.

She brings a wealth of experience, particularly with show cats and dogs, and is known for her gentle, thoughtful manner. Around the practice, Elisa is equally famous for her fantastic stories and her wonderfully unflappable nature.

🩵 Small team, big collaboration – we put our heads together on every tricky case.

Meet Courtney 🐾

Say hello to Courtney.

Her patients and their owners immediately warm to her gentle Irish lilt. She has a particular soft spot for small dogs with big personalities, inspired by her own tiny Yorkshire Terrier, Isla.

Don’t be fooled by her size, though – Isla may be small, but she is certainly mighty!

Originally from Wales, we’ve allowed him honorary Scotsman status for his exceptional service to the pets of Scotland!

Ask anyone in the practice, and they’ll tell you Alex is the person to call when a calm, empathetic approach is needed. He also somehow manages to be our very own one-man IT department.

With 34 years of veterinary experience, Beverley loves getting to know both her patients and their humans. Over the years, she has had the privilege of caring for several generations of pets within the same families – something she considers incredibly special.

🐾 Meet the Team Week 🐾

Summer holiday season is here, and the faces you see are the faces you know.

Unlike some practices, we don’t need to bring in temporary staff or locum vets over the summer. Every vet you meet is part of our small, close-knit team – the same friendly faces who already know you and your pet.

Being a small team also means we talk… a lot! We discuss challenging cases together, share ideas, and support one another. That teamwork means your pet benefits from the knowledge and experience of all five vets, no matter who you see.

So, over the next week, we’ll be introducing you to the Fantastic Five who’ll be looking after your pet family this summer – one each day, starting tomorrow! 🐾
