We are aware of the posts circulating regarding a dog that very sadly died after visiting a tulip festival.

We want to make it very clear that, despite what is circulating in the press and on social media, this dog did not die as a result of tulip poisoning.

As the UK’s only animal poison centre in the UK, we have managed over 1600 cases regarding tulips. Based on this evidence and our research, we can reassure the public that the clinical signs described in this case are not consistent with tulip toxicity. While tulips may cause gastrointestinal upset if ingested, severe cases are very uncommon. Other potential causes should be considered in this case.

If you’re concerned your pet may have been exposed to something harmful, please call Animal PoisonLine on 01202 509000. Veterinary professionals can call the VPIS on 020 7305 5055.

🚨BIG UPDATE🚨

Changes to Pet Travel to Europe 🐾🌍

If you live in the UK and travel to the EU with your pet, there is a major rule change starting TODAY (Wednesday, 22nd April).

The "loophole" for EU Pet Passports has officially closed. Here is what you need to know:

🚫 The EU Pet Passport is no longer enough
If you are a permanent UK resident, you can no longer use an EU-issued pet passport to enter Europe. This applies even if your pet was born in the EU or you’ve been using one successfully for years.

✅ You now need an AHC
For every trip from the UK to the EU, you will now need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC).

⏱️ Timing: This must be issued by a vet within 10 days of your departure.
🔂 Use: Each certificate is for a single trip only (one exit from the UK).
⏳Duration: It is valid for 6 months of travel within the EU and for your return to the UK.

🏠 "Where do you live?"

The EU now strictly defines eligibility based on where the owner lives, not where the pet is from. Unless you have proof of permanent residency in an EU country (like a residency permit), you must use the AHC system.

🕒 What should you do now?

✔️Check your travel dates: If you’re heading away soon, book your AHC appointment with us ASAP.
💉Vaccinations: Ensure your pet’s rabies vaccination is up to date (it must be done at least 21 days before an AHC can be issued).
✍️Plan ahead: Because these documents take time to process, please don’t leave it until the last minute!

Confused? We’re here to help! Send us a message or give the us a call to make sure you and your pets are ready for the border.

Veterinary Receptionist Week 💫

The first voice you hear in an emergency and the last person to wish you well as you leave. 📞❤️

Being a veterinary receptionist takes a special kind of person. It requires a calm head, a kind heart, and the ability to switch from puppy cuddles to emergency coordination in a heartbeat.

This week, we celebrate our wonderful reception team. Thank you for your patience, your professionalism, and your passion for animal care. You make a world of difference to our clients and our clinicians every single day. 🥇🐾
