That kid ! All kids! Why do i continue my hobby? This is the reason the next generation of keepers, enthusiasts, researchers, vets etc. These kids are the future not only of our hobby but the preservation of the lives of these beautiful animals that very few would typically call cute πŸ˜‚

I was so lucky to have adults that encouraged my passion, parents that tolerate my need for the most obscure invertebrates even by hobby standards. But meeting these kids and seeing them rhyme off latin names that feeling when you help them on their keeping journey thats why we do it. Its so lovely to see a knowledgeable keeper investing time with the younger generation. This is why we cannot let scotland pass a positive list. We should have a right to keep if our practices are where they should be. Denying the next generation of this privilege is criminal!

I missed you too you problematic prismatic piranha.

The strop that was displayed tonight is not entirely unexpected with the species but wow!

I beleive this is a result of me being absent for 6 days. As he has barked at me through the glass the first night back demanding i feed him. He would not eat whilst i was gone. Grabbed food out his dish and well he ate it πŸ˜…

Obviously just needs dad to make sure its safe πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ?

Fingers still intact, however if youve ever worked with tokays their eyes move as they calculate and i really dont like when he kept looking at my nose πŸ€” as i had removed him this evening for a health check and some handling, which he wasnt the happiest about.

I forgot just how hard that jaw clamps. Incredible lizards and i always love a challenge 😜

Hes still my boy though 😍

Urge to boop the cute πŸ‘ˆ

Dont trust the dragon hes certainly not toothless and im to tired for plasters.

He is grumpy with me still. Or he is sensing im weak and its finally time for the mutiny and the right to eat more than 1 or 2 Pachnoda grubs at a time !

Yes i promise i was actually resting. The mrs can attest i was lying down cleaning nymph cups of the L1 Lirometopum cf coronatum (Black faced pitbull katydids.)
I still have more to rehouse individually but thankfully due to my mum the fresh hatched had been communal housed with access to food, water and most of all a pre setup enclosure should this had occured and i was out of the picture. πŸ˜‚but i also have the single housed nymphs to clean and feed too. a victim to my own success, the irony !

This one however decided that really that wasnt particularly acceptable and that a meal should be made of myself instead. Dont worry i wont bleed out, i promise. So no need for medical assistance

Ive had enough of hospitals to last me a lifetime.🫩 to everyone thats mailed i will get back to you πŸ’š

But this nymph made me chuckle meet Nibbles. L1 and your already 100% a keeper!

The last 6 days have been hell. Hospital stay that really i wont get into just now. I dont have the energy to.

I have returned home, am i better no. But im where i need to be currently and better off here whilst waiting on further refferals. For the time being Peculiar pets Scotland is closed. I am often mailed for advice and guidance which i am always happy to give. But currently i just dont have the energy. Posts will be sporadic at best if at all. I have to catchup with my animals to the best of my current ability.

I am beyond stressed and upset, currently in pretty constant pain. And have so many things happening that i just need to slip back into some normality again before the whole situation destroys me mentally.

I hope you can all understand.

Much love

Has to be the highlight of today. Laughing hurts currently. But i needed that.

The grandma of peculiar pets my long suffering mam has held down the fort for a second evening maintaining my crew whilst im currently indisposed, bloody spine!

Lirometopum cf coronatum (Black faced pitbull katydid. ) nymphs needed freed from their incubation tubs.

This is normally handled by myself πŸ˜‚ i dont find them to difficult to coral i have worked with far bouncier species. I do forget though that not everyone has that same level of experience. Whilst on the other end of a phone the tub was opened, they began to bounce and genuinely the little green turds royally took the p**s, they were obviously ready for freedom and for leaving an indelible mark as mums most disliked invert. In fairness she did catch the ones that made a break for freedom.

I much think she much preffers mantids hatching πŸ˜‚

I did however mention when they are 1st instar everything wants to eat baby pitbulls the adults are big green bitey and mean. Its the only time where safety is guaranteed when snacking on a
Lirometopum! I do not however think mum wanted to eat them mearly persuade them that a larger tub with accessible food was a much better option.

The picture before said phone call 🫣it cut out half way through and i truely feared the worst......

When your confined to working outside with substrate because of Sciaridae currently haboured within.

But gotta gather the forbidden rice grains also located in said substrate πŸ˜‚

Which are infact Lirometopum cf coronatum(Black faced pitbull katydid) eggs.

My back and hip are not happy at me for doing this. And its baltic !

Well ive been quiet the last few days. Back pain is a bitch!

But ive also been throwing myself back into nymph maintenance. It has well and truely began to pick up fast with multiple exciting species beginning to lay or in the case with the pitbulls hatch!

Maintenance with multiple physical health issues takes alot ! This is the part we dont show, the back breaking individual pot maintenance etc.

The Lirometopum cf coronatum are doing well however until i sure up numbers they are all spoken for both by me and the multiple zoos i will be sending them out too. Like all invertebrate species they should be allowed to moult a few time before being moved elsewhere. We have worked so hard with this species to get to where we are, i wont send any before they hit this stage it just offers them a better chance.

And if anybody can offer me a new spine regardless of legality id really appreciate it πŸ˜‚!
