Be at the heart of advanced veterinary care, where your anaesthesia skills make a life-saving difference every day.

The University of Glasgow is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Nurse to join our anaesthesia team at the Small Animal Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a busy referral theatre environment, supporting a wide range of complex and advanced cases alongside specialist clinicians.

We are looking for a motivated RVN with a strong interest in anaesthesia. Previous referral or anaesthesia experience is advantageous, but not essential—full training, mentorship, and ongoing professional development are provided.

You will play a key role delivering high-quality peri-anaesthetic care, including patient monitoring, analgesia, and recovery nursing, while contributing to the smooth running of a multidisciplinary hospital. The role also offers opportunities to maintain a broad skillset through rotation across key clinical areas.

Join a supportive and inclusive team with access to excellent benefits, including a 35-hour working week, generous annual leave, CPD opportunities, and staff discounts, all within a leading teaching hospital environment.

Our seizure clinic took flight internationally! Jos Bongers spoke at ACVIM forum in Seattle, helping the audience decode the differences between various canine episodes.

She will continue decoding whilst working on her PhD using home video recordings in classifying and diagnosing canine seizures.

The seizure clinic continues to connect people locally (and now also internationally) and we’d like to thank everyone involved for making this possible!

Happy World Blood Donor Day 🩸

Did you know that dogs can also be blood donors? 🐶

Just like humans, dogs sometimes need lifesaving blood transfusions, and the only source of that blood is other dogs!

We rely on donated blood to carry out lifesaving treatments. Without donor dogs, many of the procedures we perform simply wouldn’t be possible ❤️‍🩹

We’re proud to host donation sessions with Blood Bank UK, the only charity in the UK that provides a blood bank service for dogs 🙏

Our next donation session is on 1st August and we’d love to see you there. If your dog is aged between 1 and 8, weighs over 25kg, and is fit, healthy, and confident, they could have what it takes to be a lifesaving blood donor! Find out more and register at www.petbloodbankuk.org/welcome ❤️

If your dog can’t donate blood, you can still make a big difference by spreading the word, so please share this post to help save lives 🥰

Meet Brodie ❤️ He is a 5 year old Norfolk Terrier who is a very clever boy. He is always ready for trick training, loves barking at birds, and is a campion cuddler.
Brodie was referred to our Cardiology team for suspected congestive heart failure.

This is his journey, told by the person who knows him best…

"A few weeks ago, Brodie's breathing became quicker and more laboured, after a trip to the emergency vets we were told that it was suspected that Brodie was experiencing an episode of congestive heart failure caused by MVD. We were devastated, but took on board the emergency vets recommendation to have Brodie examined by a cardiologist.

Thankfully the UGSAH were able to see us quickly. Brodie received a thorough and kind examination, but unfortunately that confirmed the diagnosis of Stage C MVD with some other valve issues. Brodie's vet, Marta, has helped us get Brodie's medication, helping him stay comfortable and happy for as long as possible. She explained everything thoroughly and was happy to answer any of our questions.

Our brave little boy is still full of spirit and we're taking each day one paw at a time."

The University of Glasgow is conducting a study on the use of cannabidiol products in the treatment of idiopathic epilepsy in dogs.

We aim to explore perceptions and experiences among dog owners across the United Kingdom. We invite owners of dogs with epilepsy whether cannabidiol is included in their dog’s treatment plan or not. We are keen to hear from both groups to ensure a comprehensive understanding.

The survey is anonymous and takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. If your dog has epilepsy, we would greatly value your participation and insight.

Ted was seen by our neurology team last month for recurring seizures. His owner has shared some pictures of him and his sister (unrelated), Here’s a glimpse into his story, shared by his owner…

"Our Ted has just turned 5. He is the sweetest, well behaved boy (unless he’s at the vets and then he’s a bit Panakin Skywalker!).

A Grand Mal seizure in November last year started us on this horrible journey. Worry and sleepless nights were the norm for a few months. Fortunately, we’ve settled in a regime and rhythm and it’s becoming our normal. Teddy was having seizures every 2 weeks but the meds seem to be working and the gaps are getting bigger.

I got 2 good pieces of info from my bc site (not going to lie, I was also frightened to death by some of it so I’m tuning a lot of it out!).

1. He will live in the moment. He will not be aware during his seizure, even though it looks so awful. Try live in the moment with him.
2. Get a name tag added to collars informing anyone he was epilepsy.

Anyway, our boy is absolutely adored. And extremely handsome, even if I do say so myself. "

Mylo was a wonderfully smart and much-loved dog who brought joy not only to his family but to everyone around him ❤️

He was well known on his street for proudly carrying his own lead on walks, and for never saying no to a well-earned biscuit. It’s clear he made a lasting impression on his neighbours, who have been incredibly supportive during this difficult time.

Mylo was cared for with great love, both at home and here with us. Although the outcome was deeply sad, it brought comfort to know he was kept comfortable and gently looked after in his final moments.

Our thoughts are with his owner and all who knew him 🌈
Sleep softly, Mylo, a truly special boy who will be dearly missed.
