Nutrition For Dogs is starting the process to join the APNC in the coming months.
The term "nutritionist" is not protected, which means ultimately anyone can call themselves a canine nutritionist, with some completing courses that can be done in a matter of hours - then going straight out offering advice with no peer reviews of their practice, no guidance and no experience.
This is not how it was done at Nutrition For Dogs. The qualification held here is from Glasgow University School of Biodiversity, One Health & Veterinary Medicine - studying Animal Nutrition at post graduate level, with an added 8 years experience advising in the nutrition space, but we think a body such as the APNC is vital in this field.
The APNC is an independent association that wish to see safety and consistency in this field - nutritionists can apply to become associates, but their qualification level, consultant experience, insurance and often case notes are peer reviewed and taken into consideration before they are granted associate status. The network offers nutrition consultants further access to additional CPD training as well as a network of other professionals working in the field of nutrition.
The process will naturally take sometime, and we will take you on snippets of the journey, but we think a body like this is vital in the canine nutrition space.
