Slightly wonky times again today even though it’s slightly cooler. The ‘at risk’ dogs (ie Gilbert the Pug) will be out on the early morning walk. And the rest of the crackpots will be out on the main group walk. Xx 😂🩷🐾☀️🥵🌭

I’m sure it’ll come as no surprise that we’ll be heading out a bit earlier than usual tomorrow and that walks will likely be shorter than usual too.

As you can see there’s a 10 degree jump in temperature in a week which is a really big deal for the dogs (& me!).
I always take the greatest care during hot spells as it takes a long time for the dogs to acclimatise to changes. Especially our poster boy for hydration, Mr G, who is modelling his cooling jacket which I soaked in cold water for him before we headed out today. His hoomum is always on the ball. Xx

Dogs in hot cars can overheat in minutes ☀️

Even on a mild day, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise dangerously fast even in the shade and with windows open.

A quick trip to the shops is never worth the risk. Heatstroke can happen within minutes and can be fatal.

No dog should be left at risk but those most prone to heatstroke include:
• Older or very young dogs
• Flat-faced breeds
• Dogs with thick or heavy coats
• Dogs with underlying health conditions

⚠️ Signs of heatstroke:
• Heavy panting
• Excessive drooling
• Breathing difficulties
• Lethargy or collapse
• Vomiting
• Loss of coordination

If you see a dog in distress or showing signs of heatstroke in a hot car, call Police Scotland on 999 immediately.

As we come into holiday season, please give due notice of time off. I don’t charge retainer fees so this allows me the opportunity to fill spaces instead of losing income.

Due to life events this past couple of years, I haven’t been as strict as I should have been about enforcing policies however in the current economic climate I can’t afford to be so shy about asking for money where it’s due.

Great advice as always from Jill O'Sullivan - Busy Bee Dog Training & Behaviour. We carry water and a bowl, take breaks and shade where we can. On very hot days I’ll offer garden visits instead of walks. Xx ☀️😎🥵🐾

Please please please keep this in mind as we come into hotter weather. It also takes dogs a long time to acclimatise to changes.
And it’s definitely not so that I can sit out on a lounger either. Y’all know how pale I am! Lol!
Please refer to the pinned temperature post and keep in mind that we have a lot of runners, flat faces, thick or double coats and a few seniors. Xx 🥵👻
