What fly control strategies are you taking this summer? Fly rugs and fly masks are a great way to keep flies at bay. A long-lasting fly spray like our Fly Repellent Advanced is also a must. And if your horse is not a fan of a spray bottle, then our Summer Fly Cream is a great option and can be applied around sensitive areas like the eyes and ears. Just a note - we don’t recommend applying them under fly rugs or masks in case it causes irritation.

Applying fly repellent can seem like an endless task at this time of year, so it’s important to choose one that lasts 🪰🐴

Our Fly Repellent Advanced spray includes conditioners and moisturisers which help to slow down evaporation on the skin so it can last longer. Its DEET-based formula is ideal for use where horses and ponies are kept in problem areas such as around ponds, streams and waterways that are heavily burdened with biting insects.
Be aware that if the fly burden is very bad, you still may need to apply more than once a day.

around her girth area, udders, tail and ears. 🐴

flies attacking sensitive areas, head shaking and kicking up at her belly. Applying
Summer Freedom salve for the first time this season has had a dramatic effect.
Abbey says Angel is more settled, swishes her tail less, has completely clear skin
and is generally a happier pony.

Flies are out in force causing a nuisance on stable yards across the country 🪰

Nettex’s equine specialist, Serena Kidd provides her top tips for managing flies:
• Avoid grazing around ponds, streams and waterways that are more prone to biting insects
• Avoid grazing at dawn and dusk when midges are most active
• Consider using fly sheets and fly masks
• Use a fly repellent to keep flies at bay, focusing on legs, bellies and the face
• Muck-pick regularly in stables and paddocks to remove fly breeding grounds and keep muck heaps away from stables
• Consider using zebra patterned sheets and masks to deter flies
• Consider housing horses in cool, well-ventilated stables if the pressure is extreme
• Use fly traps around the yard
• Bathing and quick washes after exercise to remove sweat dirt and grease are also crucial to reducing fly and midge irritation
