We are really excited to welcome Moyallen (just outside Gilford) to our calendar on 12 September when the Richardson family will be hosting our final event of the 2026 season.

Moyallan is situated on a picturesque site, on old grassland with plenty of grass covering. There are expansive flat areas for dressage and showjumping, with good visibility over the cross country course for spectators.

The flowing cross country courses which have been designed by Vina Buller and Steven Smith will have suitable questions for each level from EI110 to EI80, with alternatives where appropriate. They have made good use of natural features such as the woodland and river crossings and will be a perfect event for first timers.

Entries for Moyallen are now open and will close at noon on Monday, 7th September.

🐴 Considering a Career in the Equine Industry?

University isn’t the only route into a successful career with horses.

The CAFRE Level 2 & Level 3 Equine Apprenticeships offer an excellent opportunity to earn while you learn, combining recognised qualifications with valuable practical experience working within the equine industry.

Through an apprenticeship, students can:

🐎 Gain hands-on, practical experience in a professional equine yard
📚 Work towards a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification
🏅 Complete BHS examinations alongside their training
💼 Develop the skills and experience employers are looking for
🎓 Continue their education while learning in a real working environment

At Smith Brothers Eventing, we believe practical experience is an invaluable part of equine education. Working alongside experienced professionals allows young people to develop their riding, horse care, yard management and industry knowledge while gaining recognised qualifications.

For anyone receiving exam results and considering what comes next, an equine apprenticeship can be a fantastic alternative to a traditional classroom-based route.

📩 Interested in completing your CAFRE apprenticeship within a professional eventing yard? Contact Smith Brothers Eventing to find out more.

Apprenticeship programme will develop your practical skills and provide you with the underpinning knowledge to work in the equine industry...

🐎Edith and Tilly are gaining valuable hands-on experience during their placements with Smith Brothers Eventing. Their roles include grooming horses at shows, carrying out general yard duties and assisting with the day-to-day care of event horses. The placement is helping them develop practical skills and gain a better understanding of life in a busy eventing yard.

Edith first gained experience with Smith Brothers Eventing during her Level 3 Equine Management work placement last year and has returned this summer to further expand her skills and industry knowledge.

Tilly, a first-year Level 3 Equine Management student, is currently completing her placement with the team and enjoying the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals.

If you are looking for your next steps after GSCEs, applications for our Equine courses are still open. Visit cafre.ac.uk/study/equine/ to find out more
