A little happy birthday message!!

Koty has officially turned 1!!! 🥳

Some of you might remember him being called Royal, he was adopted from us last November and is now being spoilt rotten by his new family!

He’s turned into a proper handsome young lad and we’d like to thank his lovely humans for giving him the best life possible.

Make sure you come and visit soon!

WE ARE HIRING

We are currently looking for a new Animal Care Assistant (20 hours per week).

The job will involve the daily cleaning of our kennels, feeding and exercising our dogs. Cleaning our cat pens and feeding and socialisation of our cats. Looking after any small animals in our care with cleaning and feeding duties.

Dealing with the general public both face to face and over the telephone.
Handling donations both monetary and items donated by the public.

Keeping the shelter itself clean and tidy

The position with be part time (20 hours per week) the shifts will vary each week and will not be a set pattern

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU DO NOT MEET THE CRITERIA BELOW

1) Must have at least 1 years proven experience of handling dogs of varying sizes and temperaments.
2) Must be fully flexible. The shelter has cover 24 hours a day, 365 days a year so there will be a range of shift patterns to be covered, including twilight, nightshifts and bank holidays (Inc Easter Sunday, Christmas Day and New Years Day)

3) Must be over or approaching 25 and drive as our insurance don't cover under 25's for our ambulance

4) Must be physically fit. Depending on how many volunteers we have there could be at least 5 or 6 dog walks per day. Our staff regularly do over 20,000 steps a day.

5) Must be able to work unsupervised as well as part of the team

6) Must be comfortable dealing with people both face to face and over the telephone.
Hourly rate is £12.71 and uniform is provided.

A VERY HAPPY DAY YESTERDAY!

Meet Damien!

This lad now has a bit of a reputation for getting himself lost 🤦‍♀️.

He was handed in to us by a lovely lady who found him as a stray, when he was brought in we scanned him for a microchip. Turns out he had one!!!!!!!

After ringing the details on the chip, his owner was completely astonished and incredibly happy to hear we had him in our care.

The strange part of this story, is that Damien had managed to get all the way to the middle of Gateshead from Kent! We’d love to be able to ask him what happened because by the time he came to us he had been missing for around 5 years 😱

His owner was so happy to hear he was safe and well and quite promptly drove all the way from Kent to Gateshead, almost 9 hours after they were stuck in traffic, stayed the night in a hotel and came first thing Saturday morning to take Damien home. Hopefully a little less than 9 hours this time 🤞

We’re so happy to have been able to reunite this lovely lad with his family and we think this is a message to everyone to MICROCHIP YOUR ANIMALS, without one Damien would never have found his way home.

Hopefully, with his new tracker already ordered, Damien won’t ever get quite so lost again. Good luck to Damien and his owners! 🥰

Lovely ladies Tinkerbell and Bambi have been in their new forever home for a few weeks now and they’re getting on great which is so lovely to see!!!

A little update from their new home 🥰

“Hello! Thought we’d send a little update on how Tinkerbell and Bambi are doing (now called Dora and Winnie). They have already settled so well, they have both found their favourite spots to relax and have been very playful. They are very friendly and affectionate already and we are so happy with them! They had their second vaccination yesterday and got chipped too, they were very well behaved at the vets. Thank you for letting us adopt them, we love them so much already
Sam and Adam ☺️”

The girls have definitely landed on their paws, thank you to Sam and Adam for giving these girls the best new start!

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE GETTING IN TOUCH!!

Meet Freddie!

Freddie is a 2 year old, male Patterdale, Poodle crossbreed.

Freddie came in to our care with his brother, Hunter, as their owner was unable to look after them.
The boys have decided that they don’t particularly like each other so we are wanting to rehome them separately.

Freddie is going to be a bit of a project for someone. He has not been very well socialised, so, although not aggressive, he has absolutely no manners with both humans and other dogs and can be a bit much at first. He is beginning to calm down but it will be a work in progress for him and his new owner.

We were told that out of the two brothers, Freddie is the more affectionate one, and absolutely loves a cuddle, but please bare in mind that he may be a dog who has to stay on lead as he does have an incredibly high prey drive.

We would like Freddie’s new owner to be around most of the day to help him settle.
We do not believe that Freddie would suit a home with young children, and would like him to be the only pet in the home.

Meet Skye!

Skye is a neutered, 3 year old female bunny.

She is quite possibly one of the friendliest young ladies to have been a resident at the shelter and absolutely loves a cuddle!
She is very relaxed, loves attention, being handled, and we are told she loves children!!

Rabbits can sometimes be the wrong choice of pet for children but it is possible that this pretty girl could be the exception.

As a bonus, she seems to be fully litter trained!

Previous rabbit experience is always a bonus but not a necessity and we would require pictures of your set up as well.

Another update from Narly pops! How happy does she look?!
Thank you again to Laura and Paul for giving her the best forever home! 🥰

“Hi

Just an update about Narla, and quite a big one!

She’s been doing great still, happy and healthy, and we got gifted a wisdom panel DNA test for her. The results are attached and are very cool, she’s mainly a boxer, greyhound and American bulldog mix. Her sleeping positions are definitely very greyhound 😂

We have also found out she LOVES the beach, even the ocean haha. We’ve been a few times now and she’s always fast asleep on the car on the way back.

We just want to thank you all again for letting us take this beautiful girl home and taking care of her while she was with you. She’s fitted in so well and her personality has been coming out more and more each week, she can be quite vocal now when she’s excited and playing 😂

We’re currently looking into dog trainers to help with her reactivity, hopefully get her calmer when other dogs are around so she can enjoy her walks more and new places. We’ll let you know how it goes :)
