HEAT WAVE COMING 🥵
Here’s a few little tips for helping keep your horses comfortable in the hot weather
*Give access to any shade/shelter available (check buildings for coolness and ventilation)
*Give access to plenty of fresh clean water, the average 500kg horse can drink up to 50-70 litres in hot weather
*Apply sun cream and or fly masks to pink faces to avoid burning
*Make feeds more sloppy to give extra hydration
*Avoid rugging if possible, I know it’s hard with ones that suffer sweet itch etc, you know your horse best
*Ride when cooler, either first thing or later on if cooled down enough. A day or two without won’t hurt
*Cold hose, you don’t need to scrape the water off, just soak them with cool water 🚿
*Avoid travelling where possible, they don’t need to be like sardines in a tin 😆
