Barn Hunt UK Workshops are back!!!!

Thank you to everyone who has been in touch asking about Barn hunts - I am so excited to be running them again now that the hoopers show season has finished.
I am just waiting for all the paperwork to be finalised, but as soon as I know I will publish them here.
I'm hoping to run 4 workshop sessions over the weekend in Oct, Nov, Dec and Jan.
If there is interest for weekly lessons please comment below and if there is enough interest (minimum 4 dogs needed).

Shows 2027 - note a couple of date changes to avoid clashes

It feels like as soon as one show season ends another one is announced - so here we go.
I will be running both BK9 and CHUK shows again next year - dates subject to licenses.

You may note there are less weekend shows - this is to allow us to be more prepared for hot temperatures. However, there will be workshops run on the alternative weekend day - so anyone camping can take advantage of training and a show.

There will be a few changes to shows next year;
Trophies for all 1st places regardless of pre-entry numbers. Our popular glass trophies for classes with greater pre-entry numbers and alternative handmade trophies for all other classes (which you will be able to exchange in groups of 5 for a glass trophy if you wish).
Rosettes to all clear rounds in BK9 regardless of level - because everyone deserves a rainbow rosette.
E tokens (design to be announced soon) which can be exchanged for free runs (like a loyalty card system).
Special ways to celebrate milestones - from moving up a grade, getting clear runs or just nailing a start line wait - this will be announced in the new year.
Ability to exchange rosettes for free runs - to encourage recycling (conditions will apply).

We are also planning to plant alternative green cover in the rings to try to extend the cover even in drought conditions along with improving the boundaries around the rings to reduce distractions from outside the ring. There will be more shade provided around the field and a warm-up ring.

What a wonderful end to the Pawfect Ability show season 2026 we had this weekend.
It was a riot of colour and laughter, a few tears were shed and plenty of cake was eaten.
I saw lots of brilliant runs and a few E'xcellent ones. The farm can be a busy environment for the dogs so I am always impressed by how well they step-up to the challenges.
I want to express my gratitude to everyone who has judged, attended and helped over this show season - without you there would be no shows. THANK YOU.
The judges on Saturday - Emma Gowler Kate Smith and Dorothy Lambert were all great and the courses lovely and flowing. Thank you all
I want to thank everyone for giving so generously to support our charities - a special thank you to the Amigo's team who created the LOU fun course and sponsored the class. I want to mention Fiona Firth Nicky Harrall and Rachel Davey for doing all the hard work for the fundraising - from baking cakes to mugging everyone they know for raffle prizes, they did everything to make sure Lou was remembered and as much money was raised in her memory.
I am honoured to say that we raise a total of £1253 for charity - which will be split between Burning Nights and
Friends of Animals South Wales.

Social training walk THIS SUNDAY.

Finally the social training walks can restart after a hot summer.
There are spaces on this Sunday's walk 20th sep, 11-11.45am.

These walks have been described as magical, if you have a dog that needs to learn to relax around other dogs this is the walk for you.

Fed-up of being pulled towards strange dogs on walks.
Lost the love of dog walks because of your dog barking/lunging at other dogs.
Just want to enjoy a dog walk without other people judging you and your dog on their behaviour.

Today is national dog day and it's worth celebrating our best friends.

Over the summer holidays I've had to juggle running the farm (in a drought!) and look after 2 very energetic children! So any moment spent training dogs has been a wonderful escape. To say I love training people and their dogs is an understatement. Each partnership is different, each dog is unique - and that makes it so much fun.

On a personal note I wouldn't have managed without Big Dog (aka Bolt) working beside me on the farm. From moving cows to rounding up escaped lambs, loading up and keeping gateways clear - he has risen to every challenge. He is an older lad now and shows his age, but he loves working and I am so lucky to have him on my side.

Finally some rain and cooler temperatures mean the return to training so it's been a busy week.
Highlight of the week - we welcomed our friends with their Berger Picard's. They have held their annual breed meet-up at the farm for several years now and it's one of my favourite events. We did a barn hunt and parkour workshop and chickpea made a new best friend - Banksy. They had great fun doing zoomies.

Sadly this Saturday's social training walk has been cancelled - no surprise but it is going to be too hot to have dogs walking around for an hour at 11am.

Hopefully next month's walk will be cooler.

Our August Maisie's BK9 Hoopers Show is a charity show - we are raising funds for two amazing charities; Friends of Animals South Wales and Burning Nights. This is in memory of Louise who we lost too early suddenly last year.
The theme of the show is Bright and Loud - there will be a prize for the brightest dress competitor - just turn up looking as colourful as you can and we will pick a winner.
There will also be a swear jar (very appropriate) and each judge will award their 'Most Excellent E' of the day.
The special class is sponsored by Amigo Dogs - a pay on the day class £5/run, so all the class fees will go to charity.
There will be a cake stall and dog treats to purchase, plus a raffle.

Please bring cash with you on the day - every penny will help.
Donations for raffle prizes also welcome

So please make sure to enter before the show reaches its cap. If the show does sell out we will still welcome people who want to come along and support the charities/have a go in the special class.

I'm certain you have all seen the warnings about dogs & hot weather.

Heat waves like this one are not going to go away - sadly they appear to be becoming the new normal. So please make sure you and your dogs are safe - plenty of water, keep windows & curtains shut in the day/open at night, fans/air conditioners/cooling mats and early morning walks (evenings are starting to become hotter than midday!).

Luckily the weather on Friday & the weekend is looking to be significantly cooler so at the moment workshops/show will go ahead as planned. However, if this changes we will put the welfare of your dog (& you) first when making any decisions.
