⚠️ Increased Risk of Blow Fly Strike 🪰

With the recent warm, wet weather we are seeing an increased number of cases of fly strike in sheep. Treatments applied at the start of summer may have worn off, leaving sheep vulnerable.

Signs to look out for:
- Irritation: Biting, kicking or stamping at their fleece.
- Restlessness: Separating from the flock or appearing agitated.
- Dirty or discoloured fleece: Especially around the back end.
- visible maggots or flies: Check the tail, rump and any wounds.
- Dullness or loss of appetite: Weakness or reluctance to move.

Prompt treatment is essential. Check sheep daily, review whether previous treatments are still effective, investigate worm burden and seek veterinary advice immediately if fly strike is suspected.

Farming can be incredibly rewarding, but we know it can also bring long hours, unpredictable challenges, financial pressures and feelings of isolation.

As farm vets, we see first-hand the dedication, hard work and passion that farmers put into caring for their animals every day. But it’s just as important to remember to look after yourselves too.

Sometimes a simple conversation can make a real difference. Whether it’s a chat over a cup of tea during a farm visit, checking in on a neighbour or reaching out when things feel difficult, a little support can go a long way.

We had a fantastic day at the Dairy Show yesterday! 🐄

Thank you to all our clients who took the time to come and visit us at our stand. It was great to catch up, have some great conversations and enjoy a slice of Georgina’a delicious rocky road!

Well done to everyone who took part in the showing and helped make the day such a brilliant celebration of the dairy industry.

🐄 A reminder to keep on top of fly treatment this October

Last week, vet Sam had removed an eye from a steer suffering from a severe case of New Forest Eye.

With the warm weather continuing, we are still seeing active fly populations, so it’s important to keep up with your fly control for a little longer this year.

Regular fly control can help reduce the risk of New Forest Eye and keep your cattle comfortable as we head further into autumn.

YFC Ploughing Match 🚜

Yesterday, we were proud to sponsor the Frome Young Farmers Club Ploughing Match!

With over 60 entries, there was some fantastic competition and plenty of impressive ploughing on show. The weather was also on our side, making it a great day!

Well done to everyone who entered and helped make the event such a great success. It was brilliant to see so many people taking part and supporting the day.

What a brilliant day we have had at Frome Show today! 💛

It was an amazing turnout and great to see so many of you! Thank you to everyone who popped by the stand to say hello and enjoy a cream tea!

We are over the moon to have been awarded 2nd place in the 9 metre and over stand category!
