Customers often see the finished product, but rarely the years that came before it.
I’ve been creative for as long as I can remember. From being a toddler with a paintbrush in my hand and throughout my school years, art and design was always such a huge part of my life. At eleven, my friends would ask me to draw their horses and farm animals for them to pin on their bedroom walls, and entering my artwork into our local country show became a yearly tradition throughout my younger years.
As I got older, I knew I wanted to be creative in my career. I studied art, product design, textiles and photography throughout my GCSEs, A-Levels and Art Foundation skills that, without really knowing it at the time, were laying the foundations for what I do today.
After finishing my Art Foundation, Brad and I decided to start our first business at just 18, selling personalised gifts. We started with next to no money, lots learn and a whole lot of belief in ourselves. We ran that business for eight years before our journey eventually led us to AP.
We’ve now spent the past 14 years building businesses together. There have been mistakes, failures, successes, long days, lessons learnt and plenty of figuring things out as we went along.
It takes years of practice and patience to develop skills as a designer, artist, photographer and business owner, we are still learning today. Sometimes people only see the surface of AP today, but in reality, this business has been 14 years in the making.
In some ways, it started way before AP even had a name, with a young girl who simply loved to draw and paint.
And I hope I get to keep doing exactly that, creating artwork and products that bring a joy into your lives, for many more years to come.
