Grooming an Irish Terrier—often called the "Daredevil" of the dog world—is about more than just aesthetics. Their signature dense, wiry coat is designed to be weather-resistant and dirt-repellent, but keeping that classic silhouette takes a bit of elbow grease.

To keep the coat show-quality and functional, hand-stripping is the gold standard. This involves pulling out dead outer hairs by hand (or with a stripping knife) to allow new, wiry hair to grow in.
⭐️Frequency: Usually every 4–6 months for a full strip, or "rolling" the coat every few weeks to keep it tidy.
⭐️Pet Trim: If you aren't showing your dog and prefer ease over texture, a "pet clip" with scissors/clippers is fine, but be aware the coat texture will change permanently.

When it comes to grooming a Norwich Terrier✨🐾, we are dealing with a "hard" double coat. It’s designed to be weather-resistant and protective, but it requires a specific touch to keep it functional and looking sharp.

Hand-Stripping vs. Clipping🐶🐾

This is the most important decision for a Norwich owner.

• Hand-Stripping (Recommended): This involves pulling out dead outer hairs by hand (or with a stripping knife) to allow new, wiry hair to grow in. This maintains the coat’s waterproof texture and vibrant color.

• Clipping (The Easy Way): Using electric shears is faster, but it cuts through the dead and live hair together. Over time, this makes the coat soft, curly, and duller in color, and it loses its ability to shed water and dirt effectively.
