Ewen has always been my absolute hero, there's not much he can't turn his hand to. Having upgraded the original stable roof a couple of months ago, here he is, starting the next block. What a man.

Thank you and well done to everyone who came to our slightly impromptu show jumping. We ranged from raised poles through 30cm straight to 70, 80 & 90cm, including Black Isle Show Qualifiers.

Well done to Megan Gillon on her two wee ponies, Ozzy & Winnie, and also Samantha Murray on her lovely Bodach, who all qualified for the finals with double clear rounds over a technical course.

I always appreciate that folks take the time to support my events and I hope that some of them will be rewarded at future shows. See you all again soon.

Many thanks to Adrian as well, his photography is unparalleled in the area.

Show jumping Friday 29th.

Starting with poles at 5pm. Followed by 30cm; 45cm; 60cm; 70cm; 80cm (includes BISQ) & 90cm (also includes BISQ). We are still low on entries so can't say when the Qualifiers will be but won't start them until 6pm to allow those entered to get along without too much of a rush.

£7.50 for pre entries (up until 10pm tonight) and £10 for entries on the day.

There will be juice, teas, coffees available along with some bakes.

See you tomorrow

Our grass jumping arena is now ready for hiring out for lessons. Some pictures of a few of the new jumps. Lots of these were made by my wonderful husband to whom I am eternally grateful.

BD show on Sunday 14th June.

We have been advised by BD HQ to ensure that our biosecurity and passport checks are established before our next event.

All horses entered in any show at Viewmount over the summer months, will be required to have an up to date passport showing current vaccination record, which must be full and correct. No horse may join us for a show without us seeing a copy of the relevant pages (showing horse's registration credentials and its 'flu vaccination record). This can be a scanned copy or a photographic copy but it must be in our hands before horses arrive.

Please, please, please be aware of these rules when you enter our shows, be they BD, unaffiliated dressage or any jumping competition.

As training usually involves only one horse at a time, we can be a little more relaxed but would still appreciate the same records before you arrive.

None of us want to be in this situation but rules are rules and we want all our horses to be fit and healthy.

Many thanks to you all.

Any questions, please drop me a WhatsApp on 07815 798918

So agree with this

It’s easy to think that to jump successfully it’s essential to train regularly over a course of showjumps or a cross-country course. This is true to some extent — horses need to know how to tackle a full course and deal with everything it throws up. However, when it comes to teaching your horse the technicalities of jumping, nothing beats gridwork.

Whether you’re a novice rider, have a young or inexperienced horse, or are both old hands at jumping, gridwork will help you to improve. It builds trust in your partnership and develops control, and these two things combined mean that jumping a course clear should become easier.

Take a look at some great gridwork exercises via link in comments.

As some of you know, I'm mostly known these days for keeping my horse's hooves firmly on the ground. This week however, thanks to Moray Riding Club, Aileen Ferrari and Pam Joyce, we actually went jumping. To say that I'm rusty is one of the understatements of the year so far. We went to training on Thursday and despite my protestations about some of the poles being OFF THE GROUND, Aileen insisted that we could manage, even little jumps. She was right, of course.

Due to MRC keeping entries open, we decided to risk our lives again today, and jumped round two courses of working hunter jumps. Safe to say, my horse LOVES to jump.

I think my friend Mhairi would have been so proud of me and I post this as a reminder to you all, YOU CAN DO THIS.

There is a lovely photo of said horse and rusty rider coming along, courtesy of Adrian le Maitre
