Adrian Slater stands as one of the most respected and warmly regarded figures in the British Gundog Community..
a true master whose remarkable 50-year journey embodies dedication, humility, passion, and profound accomplishment.
Together with his wife Caroline, he has built a legacy that blends elite competition, generous mentorship, captivating public performance, and a deep commitment to the welfare and working heritage of spaniels and Labradors.
Adrian’s love for gundogs began in the most heartfelt way.
At just 16, he invested his first week’s wages in his first spaniel, the cherished “Patch,” purchased for £20 !
Two years later, a touching surprise from his mother
a Labrador named Major sealed his lifelong devotion.
His passion deepened dramatically after watching Her Majesty The Queen and head keeper Bill Meldrum working dogs at Sandringham on television, igniting a special affinity for spaniels and the rich traditions of the field.
In his mid-20s, Adrian’s competitive career took flight.
He achieved a commendable third place in his very first Labrador trial at age 25.
Success followed steadily: he made up Pyecross Peggy of Kipperridge to Field Trial Champion (FTCh) status, while Marshbrook Bella of Kipperridge earned a second-place award in her debut trial before triumphing in the Yorkshire Sporting Spaniel Trial.
Over the decades, Adrian has won numerous trials and tests, competing against the very best at the highest levels.
Adrian Slater has represented England an impressive 15 times at The CLA Game Fair with seven different spaniels.
Standout moments include winning Top Overall Dog with Rosie (Kipperridge Wanda) an outstanding score of 98 out of 100
and twice securing Top Hunting Spaniel with his springer spaniel “Drummer”
Recognised as an A-Panel Kennel Club Judge, Adrian has had the honour of judging the English Spaniel Championships twice and the Cocker Spaniel Championships twice.
He now proudly serves as England Spaniel Team Captain, having previously acted as selector and organiser a role that reflects decades of respected leadership and knowledge.
In July 2026, he will once again captain the team and also provide expert commentary at The Game Fair at Ragley Hall.
Parallel to his competitive success, Adrian and Caroline have shared their expertise and joy with the wider public for over 30 years. Their renowned Kipperridge Gundog Display Team & The K92000 Dog Display Team has enchanted audiences nationwide for over 20 years with skillful, entertaining, and often humorous demonstrations that highlight the natural working brilliance of their dogs.
Highlights include regular appearances with The Kipperridge Dogs in The Main Arena at Crufts from 2010 to 2017 which can be viewed on you tube.
The Sandringham Flower Show, Burghley Horse Trials The CLA Game Fair and many major game fairs.
A particular honour was performing before HRH Prince Charles in 2018. They also hosted displays for the Kennel Club at game fairs for many years and delivered seminars as part of the Kennel Club Accredited Instructors (KCAI) programme
at Crufts.
Their media presence further reflects their standing they appeared on The A1 Britain’s Longest Road, following their journey to a major game fair in the northeast, and on also on Channel 4’s The Dog Rescuers hit series where they compassionately rehabilitated a neglected Springer Spaniel named Marley.
Adrian was also selected to feature in The Skinner’s Dog Food advertising campaign with the Kipperridge dogs.
Over the years, Adrian has delivered thousands of lessons, helping countless triallers and gundog owners achieve outstanding results with their dogs.
Today, Adrian and Caroline run Kipperridge Gundog Training, and also Gundog TV offering private and group sessions, puppy training, and unforgettable immersive gundog holidays at their scenic Drimnatorran Farm in Strontian on Scotland’s stunning west coast.
Through GundogTV online courses Adrian shares a rich library of training videos, guiding handlers of every level to build stronger, more rewarding partnerships with their dogs.
With his exuberant yet approachable personality and Caroline’s steadfast partnership, Adrian creates a welcoming, supportive environment wherever he goes.
