Ferring Street Veterinary Surgery opened on 14th March 2011 with a vision of providing a welcoming and relaxing practice; an environment where we can provide the highest level of care to our patients and our clients. With our great team and fantastic clients, we outgrew our Ferring surgery and in 2018 we opened a sister surgery in East Preston for our clients coming from East Preston, Angmering, R

ustington, Littlehampton and Arundel. It was a challenge to build the surgery during the pandemic but well worth it and we are delighted to show off our new premises to you.

🐾 WOULD YOU KNOW IF YOUR PET WAS IN PAIN? 🐾

Our pets are incredibly good at hiding pain. They don’t always cry, whimper or limp, and sometimes the first signs that something isn’t right can be very subtle.

Keep an eye out for changes such as:

🐶 Sleeping more than usual
🐾 Being reluctant to exercise, jump or climb stairs
🦴 Stiffness, particularly after resting
🍽️ Changes in appetite or eating habits
🐱 Hiding or becoming less sociable
🧼 Changes in grooming habits
😾 Becoming grumpy or less tolerant
💤 Changes in their usual sleeping position

❤️ Small changes can be the biggest clues.

🦷🐾 When was the last time your pet’s teeth were checked? 🐾🦷

We often think about our pets’ vaccinations, weight and general health, but their dental health can sometimes be forgotten.

Dental disease is very common in cats and dogs, and our pets can be surprisingly good at hiding signs of discomfort. You may not realise there’s a problem until it becomes quite advanced.

Keep an eye out for:
🦷 Bad breath
🦷 Yellow or brown build-up on the teeth
🦷 Red, swollen or bleeding gums
🦷 Dropping food or difficulty eating
🦷 Pawing at the mouth
🦷 Changes in appetite or behaviour

Regular dental checks allow us to spot problems early and discuss the best way to keep those teeth and gums healthy. ❤️

And remember, a pet eating normally doesn’t necessarily mean their mouth is pain free.

🐾 MEET THE TEAM – WELCOME ZENIA!🐾💕

We’re very excited to introduce the newest member of our team… Zenia! 🥰

Zenia has recently joined us as our new Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN), continuing her studies and gaining valuable hands on experience with the team. She’ll be working under the careful eye and guidance of Hannah, our RVN, as she continues her training and develops her nursing skills. 🩺🐶🐱

But there’s more to Zenia than just veterinary nursing! 🥰

✨ Outside of work, she loves getting creative with diamond art and enjoys making beautiful quilts.
🔍 She’s also a big fan of a good true-crime story!
💍 And excitingly, Zenia is getting married next year, so there’s lots for her to look forward to!

We’re so pleased to have you as part of the team, Zenia, and we can’t wait to watch you grow throughout your training! 💕🐾

🐾 Meet Herbie! 🐾

Our lovely Herbie was back in with us for his regular FreeStyle Libre fitting and, as always, he was such a brave boy! 💙 What a superstar! ⭐️

But what exactly is a FreeStyle Libre and why do we use one?

A Libre is a small sensor that sits just under the skin and continuously measures glucose (blood sugar) levels. It allows us to monitor glucose levels throughout the day and night without needing to take frequent blood samples. 🩸📈

For diabetic patients like Herbie, this can be really helpful for:
🐶 Monitoring glucose levels over a longer period
🐶 Seeing how glucose levels change throughout the day
🐶 Checking how well their insulin is working
🐶 Helping the veterinary team make informed decisions about their diabetes management
🐶 Identifying periods of high or low glucose that may otherwise be missed

The sensor makes monitoring much easier and less stressful for both pets and their owners, while giving us a much clearer picture of what is happening with their glucose levels.

Well done, Herbie you’re doing an amazing job! 🥰🐾

🐾 Smidge’s Hydrotherapy Update! 🐾💦

Look at Smidge go! 💕 Here she is enjoying another hydrotherapy session in the pool, wearing her life jacket and showing us that age certainly doesn’t have to slow her down! 🐶🏊‍♀️

At 12 years old, Smidge benefits from regular hydrotherapy alongside her arthritis treatment. Hydrotherapy can be particularly beneficial for older dogs as the water provides support for their body while allowing them to exercise with less impact and stress on their joints.
