🐾 Want a better recall? Start rewarding automatic check-ins! 🐶
At Puppy Academy, I’m always talking about the importance of ‘automatic check-ins’ when it comes to recall.
Here’s a little demo of Merlin showing exactly what I mean! 🐕💛
He runs ahead, stops, and naturally looks back to check in with me. All I need to do is bend down, open my arms, and invite him to recall straight back to me.
No verbal cue needed! 🙌
This is what we want to encourage: a dog who chooses to check in with you, even when they’re exploring the world around them.
Every time your dog voluntarily looks back at you, checks where you are, or chooses to reconnect, make it worthwhile! Reward those moments and show them that staying connected to you is a great choice.
✨ Remember: don’t just reward the recall when you call your dog. Reward the little check-ins that happen naturally along the way.
That’s how you build a dog who wants to stay connected to you, even at a distance! 🐾
