💩 Why do puppies eat poo? Let’s talk about it...

It might be one of the most shocking (and unpleasant!) puppy behaviours, but it’s actually more common than you think, the reason for the behaviour also might surprise you

Puppies may eat poo because they are:
🐾 Exploring the world through taste and smell
🐾 Hungry, growing takes a lot of energy
🐾 Bored, stressed, or looking for stimulation
🐾 Looking for attention (being told off is better than no attention at all)
🐾 Sometimes there may be a medical reason so it's always worth speaking to your vet

In most cases, it’s a phase that puppies grow out of with the right guidance and training 💛

The important thing?
🚫 Don’t punish or shout – this can actually make them eat even quicker to stop you stealing it!
🚫Do not muzzle them - this doesn't address why they want to eat it so can just make a messier situation!
✔️ Focus on supervision, distraction, and positive redirection
✔️ Reward them for coming away from it
✔️Keep environments clean to remove temptation
✔️Patience - don't give up, it can take some time for them to learn it's more rewarding to leave the poo
