Cat or French bakery? You decide. 🥐🍞🧣
If you own a cat, you know they don't just sleep—they proof like sourdough. The internet has officially classified the three ultimate cat pastry positions. Which one is your kitty rocking today?
1. The Loaf 🍞
• The Look: All four paws and tail completely tucked underneath. A perfect rectangular block of bread.
• The Vibe: "I’m relaxing, but keep the treats close." They feel totally safe and cozy, but they're still keeping an eye on the room (and conserving maximum body heat).
2. The Croissant 🥐
• The Look: Curled tightly on their side into a crescent shape. Nose touches the tail.
• The Vibe: * Do Not Disturb Mode.* This tight curve protects their vital organs and blocks out drafts. If your cat is a croissant, they have officially entered deep, restorative REM sleep.
3. The Baguette 🥖
• The Look: The elongated loaf. Instead of sitting upright, they stretch flat, long, and narrow against the floor.
• The Vibe: Maximum liquid form. This is a total level-up from the standard loaf. It means their guard is completely down, their spine is fully relaxed, and they are living their best low-stakes life.

🐾 Did you know that up to 90% of senior cats live with arthritis? 🙀

Cats are absolute masters at hiding pain.

If your furry best friend is getting older, keep an eye out for these quiet signs of Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD):

• Hitting the "snooze" button on jumping up to their favorite high windowsill 🪟

• A coat that looks a bit unkempt or matted because stretching to groom hurts 🐈‍⬛

• Hesitating or looking stiff when they first wake up from a nap 😴

• Accidentally missing the litter box because the sides are too high to step over 🐾

The good news? While we can't reverse joint changes, we can absolutely keep them comfortable! From advanced new vet treatments to simple home upgrades like ramps, low-sided litter trays, and cozy heated beds, there is so much we can do.

3 cute little kitties in with us yesterday for neutering. Roo, Winnie who are sisters and Daisy. We recover all our patients in our 'recovery buggy' this allows our nurse to keep a vwey close eye on them until they are sitting up and ready to go back to their cozy condo.

🐾 BEAT THE HEAT

With some warm weather still on the horizon, here is some practical advice!

Did you know cats naturally have a low thirst drive? In hot weather, this puts them at high risk for dehydration, heatstroke, and kidney strain.
Since our feline friends can't tell us when they are overheating, here are simple, practical ways to protect them today:

Boost Their Hydration:
• offer them wet food: It drastically increases their daily water intake.
• add a water fountain: Cats prefer running water because it feels fresher and safer.
• scatter water bowls: Place multiple bowls away from their food and litter trays.

Keep Them Cool:
• Create chilly retreats: Leave a fan on, close curtains, or set out a damp, cool towel for them to lie on.
• Gentle grooming: Wipe them down with a damp cloth to mimic the cooling effect of grooming.
• A good brushing: Remove dead hair, sebum, dirt and dander, that will help them feel refreshed!

🚨 Know the Warning Signs:
Contact a vet immediately if you see heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, bright red gums, or vomiting.

🐾 CAT OF THE MONTH: LILY 🐾
Lily has been through an incredibly challenging couple of months after developing bullous keratopathy, a serious eye condition which put her at risk of her cornea rupturing and potentially needing her eye removed.
Her amazing owners administered multiple eye drops several times a day, kept her indoors and managed the Buster collar during the worst of her illness. It was an emotional and financially challenging journey, but they did absolutely everything we asked of them.
Lily has been a superstar patient throughout, tolerating her examinations brilliantly. We are absolutely delighted that, after two months of treatment, she has finally been given the all clear and has saved her eye! 🎉
A special thank you also to Abi, a veterinary ophthalmology specialist in training, for her invaluable advice and guidance during Lily’s treatment.

Yesterday Freddie celebrated his 21st birthday! 🎂🥳🎉😻💖 Freddie has a monthly quality-of-life home visit from our lovely vet nurse, Estelle, to help monitor his health and spot any changes as early as possible.

He absolutely loves his Lick-e-Lix treats but is far less enthusiastic about having his claws clipped! 😹 Despite that, he's a real trooper and is dearly loved by both his owner and the entire Vet2Cat team.

Happy 21st birthday to our oldest furry friend, Freddie! Wishing you many more treats, cuddles, and happy days ahead. 💓🐾
