From the outside, it can look simple what we do... Bath. Dry. Haircut. Cute photo. To be a quality groomer is far from simple - or easy.
But hereโs SOME of what actually goes into being a professional dog groomerโฆ
๐พ We know coat types. Inside out.
Combination coat. Double coat. Wool. Silky. Wire. Drop. Curly. We know how each behaves when wet, brushed, clipped or scissored.
๐พ We understand skin health.
Hot spots. Seborrhoea. Yeast. Parasites. Allergic reactions. Lesions. Tumours. We have to know exactly how to manage skin issues, how to improve skin health and how to implement each groom with this in mind.
We spot things early โ often before owners do. We have even saved numerous dogs lives from this early detection of abnormalities for owners.
๐พ We read behaviour in real time.
Lip licking. Whale eye. Freezing. Avoidance. Escalation. Anxiety signals. Aggression.
We try to adjust before fear turns into panic.
We manage the safety of your dog constantly. And we try to rehabilitate dogs who have grooming triggers. Kindly. Gently. Safely.
We empathise, we reassure, we love your pet. We help them learn that grooming isnt scary.

Handling seniors with empathy and kindness, adjusting our handling methods to help the dog, often using our own bodies to help an old dog stand when needed, we would rather take the discomfort than your pet endure it. Understanding and using equipment correctly. Preventing injury at all costs.

Angulation. Proportion. Growth patterns.
We know how to balance a trim & enhance the natural conformation of your dog as an individual. We learn anatomy and physiology to understand movement in order to handle joints safely and correctly. To spot abnormalities such as slipping patella, cow hocks and more.
๐พ We make ethical decisions. And face the consequences of them.
Welfare over vanity. Shorter trims when necessary. Refusing painful dematting. Advocating for the dog โ even when itโs uncomfortable. We risk daily 1* reviews and social media back lash for acting in the best interests of the dog from shaving their coat to avoid further pain. We are called lazy, incompetent and unskilled for prioritising a pets welfare. We actually hate shaving coats, we prefer to be creative with our grooming. We are artists after all. But we wont cause discomfort to obtain vanity.

We see common ailments daily, we learn to spot the signs and we are usually right in our suspicions. Whilst we cannot diagnose a health issue and will always recommend vets, we have learnt to identify the problem. From suspecting ear infections, infected an*l glands & conjunctivitis to anatomical issues such as a slipping patella or allergies.
We have knowledge of nutrition, we know how gut imbalances can impact a dog that is displaying tear stains. We know to check and how to delicately remove grass seeds from between their toes that otherwise could track up the body causing horrendous consequences.

Lifting. Bending like a skilled contortionist. Straining our bodies. Repeating precise movements while we meticulously handle moving targets and sharp objects.
We Manage nervous, excitable, anxious, stressed energies in the multiple personalities we must adjust ourselves in just one day.
Whilst managing our own bodies. Trying to keep up to demand of the little souls who rely on us.

For your dogโs safety. For yours. For their comfort. For their trust. For our industry and for the general public on how grooming is perceived as "just a hobby".
๐พ We mourn their loss.
We work closely with your dogs, we bond with them. We know their little personalities, quirks, likes and dislikes. We know how they have a special tickle spot on their chest, what their favourite treats are in the salon, how they like to be spoken to gently through their groom to reassure them and how they get the postgroom zoomies. We love them. And we feel their loss when they leave us. It breaks our hearts every single time and we NEVER forget them.
