🚨🐶 Lungworm Alert
We’ve recently seen a confirmed case of lungworm at the practice. With the ongoing rain, slugs and snails are more active than ever, creating ideal conditions for lungworm to spread.
Lungworm is transmitted when dogs come into contact with slugs, snails or their trails, even accidentally, while sniffing, playing or drinking from puddles and outdoor water sources.
Clinical signs to look out for:
Symptoms can be mild, vague or serious. Keep an eye out for:
🐾 Coughing or breathing difficulties
🐾 Low energy or unusual tiredness
🐾 Reduced appetite or weight loss
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🐾 Excessive bruising or bleeding (lungworm can affect clotting)
🐾 Behaviour changes such as restlessness or depression
Not all wormers protect against lungworm. If you’re unsure whether your dog is covered, our team can help you choose the right preventative plan.
Let’s keep our pets safe this rainy season 💙
