It's International Dog Day and I need to give Ruckus a shout out here.

I'll be honest we didn't have a great start, I think he came along at the wrong time and I really struggled to connect with him - feels strange saying that about a dog. Ruckus on the other hand was obsessed with me from the get go.

However he has been a life saver. I don't know what would have become of me after I lost Claire if Ruckus wasn't here. Each morning I need to get out of bed for him, doesn't matter how rubbish I'm feeling, I need to drag myself out of bed. He gets me out the house each day when most days I have no other reason to leave the house.

I owe him so much.

He is a complete muppet. He loses his tiny little mind whenever he gets any interaction from people, even a smile and he is gone. I wish I could have a 2 minute conversation with him to explain if he just chilled out he would get all the attention he wants from people 😅

When there is no one around he is really chilled and so clever. It took about 2 minutes to teach him to pull my socks off and put them in the washing basket. He even taught himself to lift Claire's hand back onto her knee if he arm fell off her arm rest and she couldn't pick it back up ❤️

He is an adventure dog at heart, can go all day. Think it's impossible to tire him out. His favourite thing in the world is retrieving his toy from the water. Would do it all day long.

Thank you Ruckus for giving me a reason to get up each morning.

Just checking in...

I haven't picked people for the complimentary shoots yet, I will. Life is getting a little on top of me right. It's been 4 months since losing Claire and grief is tough beast - I'm completely bone weary at the moment.

I'm still doing some shoots and don't worry I'm ok when I'm around people.

In two minds about mentioning this stuff here but at it's heart Mutley's Snaps has always been an extension of who I am, right now life's tough.

Super model dachshunds to brighten everyones day.

Part of moving the business forward and making it more sustainable is getting people back to the studio to view their images.

I did this before covid but to protect Claire's health I stopped them, they were one more point of contact.

So to easy me back into viewings again I'm offering two complimentary studio shoots.

⚫️ The shoots will take place in my studio in Bonnybridge (FK4).

⚫️ You will be invited back to view the images two weeks after the shoot.

⚫️ You will receive 5 social media sized digitals - you get more to pick from.

Don't worry I'm in no way a sales person so don't worry about any hard sales, if you would like to purchase wall art or prints that would be amazing but no pressure at all - and you will receive your 5 social media sized images regardless.

If you would be interested drop a picture of your dog(s) in the comments below and I will pick a couple.

You must be available for the shoot within the first couple of weeks of August and you must be willing to return to view the images.

Happy National Dog Photography Day!

Biggest dog photography myth - your dog needs to be well trained and obedient!

95% of the dogs that come into the studio do not sit still but I always manage to capture a full galleries worth of images.

I've been doing this for over 10 years and I must have photographed over a 1000 dogs by this point from single dogs to pairs to trios and 60 odd dogs in 4 hours at pop up events. I've seen it all.

I love the challenge of working out the best way to work with your dogs - they are all individuals and often need different approaches.

I'm going to leave it another month or so before relaunching properly but I'm going to be posting about a couple of complimentary shoots in the next few days so keep an eye out.

A wee up date.

I've decided going forward, at least for the time being, I'm going to focus on Studio shoots.

The studio is in the garden at home, means I don't need to leave Ruckus. And to be honest, ever since I first stepped foot in a studio it was where my heart lay.

I'm still around a month away from relaunching everything. Still have some work to do on the business side. I also need to do website updates, even the thought of that has me in tears.

Claire was a web designer and this was always something I'd ask her to day. The thought of changing her work is hard. She has also designed a new website for me, I'm not sure if I'm ready to finish that and put it live. I have struggled to update the about section as I would always get upset about Buk and Rora - Fen, Zepp and Ruckus deserve to be on there. Now I also need to work out how to include Claire in there 💔

I've had a couple of shoots since losing Claire and they have been good.

Life is still really tough though. I think I would be truly lost without Ruckus. We didn't have the best start, I didn't bond well with him at the start, he drove me crazy. But I'm not sure if I'd be able to get out of bed if he didn't need me to get up for him. He gets me out the house each day. And my cat dudes give the best cuddles.

Sorry over sharing again...

I have space for a studio shoot this weekend, drop me a message if you would like it.

Goose ❤️

Turns out the way to a dachshund's heart is cheese. Goose was happy to do what ever you wanted for some cheese 😅

This was my first shoot since losing Claire. I was a bit worried about Ruckus. He was never left alone before, he has been doing really well being left since everything happened, to be honest he couldn't care less. But he was always a pain for Claire when I was in the studio with clients(it's in the garden) - people that he wasn't allowed to speak to!!! But I think yesterday he was fine so that's a relief.

We'll get there.

Just a wee update of what's going on here.

I have my first shoot tomorrow since losing Claire.

It's still really difficult. I'm fine around people but all those in-between times are difficult. I've never been great at socialising, so it can be quite isolating at times. People keep saying make sure I do things I enjoy. So I had a think, what do I actually enjoy doing? It all involved just being around Claire.

It's going to be a challenge to find a new normal.

I went up to the Intensive Care Unit to drop off £1100 worth of vouchers for the nurses from Claire's collection. It was tough but glad we(Claire's mum came as well) did it. And I sent £1000 to Muscular Dystrophy UK from the other half of the collection.

Got the new car, so going to try and take Ruckus on more adventures and make an effort to get back to Dundee to see friends more often.

I decided to push Not a Retreat back, it will now take place in May 2027. I'll update the website tonight. I've emailed the people that had already applied.

Still working on setting the business up for success.

Hopefully if tomorrows shoot goes well(can't see why it wouldn't), I'll offer some more limited shoots over the next few weeks.

Thank you again for your support and patiences while I deal with a really tough time in my life.
