I had the absolute honour of working with this girl over video call yesterday 😍 Let me introduce you to Tara 🐾

Tara is a shy girl, but she’s come SO far under her mum’s kind and gentle care. The bond they’ve built is really special, and that’s exactly where we need to be to help Tara with the next steps in her journey.

We’d really like Tara’s world to get a bit bigger, and going for a little walk is our goal. I’m completely confident that we can do it - Tara is shy, yes, but she’s also playful, loving and curious about the world around her. Getting out and about will be a good thing for her - we wouldn’t be working towards that goal otherwise!

Keep an eye out for updates on Tara’s journey to confidence and adventures 🐾❤️

I’m SO happy to announce that I’m now working with two fabulous new rescue organisations, helping to support them and their adopters in the important work they do ❤️

Sand to Sofa Rescue and Thistle Paws Dog Rescue are both Scotland-based organisations that look after and find homes for needy souls overseas. I’m really impressed with the ethos and processes that these lovely, kind and resilient people use to do their life-saving work both here and abroad. I’m so proud to be involved in dog rescue, and this is an exciting new step for sure 😍

Remember to give them both a follow too! ❤️🐾

How does your dog cope with change? 🐾

I speak to lots of people who have nervous or reactive dogs, and change can be VERY hard for them. Even something as simple as rearranging the furniture, or someone getting a new haircut, can throw them off.

I have 2 Romanian rescue dogs, both of whom have been nervous/fearful/reactive during some parts of their lives with me. Last week, the whole family (cat included) moved out while some work was being done on our house. We were staying in a place we’d never been to before, and I was a little bit worried about how stressful it would be for them.

But I should have known - my babies never cease to amaze me. After some initial confusion, they settled down beautifully and we actually ended up having a lovely week. The main source of stress came from me trying to fix the WiFi so I could work from the Airbnb 😂 Dogs, cat - unbothered ❤️

Sometimes when we expect the worst, we’re being unfair to our dogs. It’s hard, but putting a bit of faith and trust in them can teach us a lot. Have you ever challenged your belief system about what your dog is and isn’t capable of? 🐾

There’s a heatwave coming! ☀️ 🕶️

So here comes your yearly reminder that dogs get overheated MUCH more quickly than we do, and it’s important to avoid walking them during the warmest parts of the day. We shouldn’t need to remind people about this, but I still see people walking dogs that are clearly struggling in this weather.

Early morning and later evening walks - or skipping walks altogether - is highly recommended. Your dog will be fine missing a walk or two! Think about how you can keep them cool and comfortable at home - avoid energetic activities, provide plenty of fresh water, keep blinds and curtains drawn if your house heats up quickly. It’s not rocket science!

My two are pretty groggy when it’s hot, so I’m not too worried about them exerting themselves. They much prefer a snooze than a run in this weather - me too! ❤️🐾

Celebrating small victories 💪

It’s so important, even when we’re working through behaviour issues with our dogs, that we continue to celebrate even the tiniest victories. For those of us with tricky dogs, the small things really are worth celebrating!

Tell me about one thing - big or small - that you and your dog have done really well this week 🐾❤️

It can be difficult to maintain hope and optimism in this frightening, unpredictable world we live in.

But somehow, when I look into my dog’s eyes, I know

everything

will be

OK ❤️

This little girl used to be terrified of me.

When Sia first came home with us, she was a very scared and nervous lady - she mostly hid inside a crate and definitely didn’t want to be touched. Just the idea of having her harness put on would make her hide away, and she really didn’t trust me.

Today, her personality couldn’t be more different - she’s funny, silly, wacky and SO affectionate. She loves being close to us and always wants a cuddle, and walks are her favourite thing. She’s an exceptionally loving little pooch - it was all hiding just under the surface.

If you’re looking at your dog and wishing you could have a different relationship - a closer bond - with them, you CAN. Things don’t always have to be the way they are right now. Real change can happen at any time in a dog’s life, and I would love to help you get there with them ❤️🐾
