Am I going to regret this?

Three years ago I launched goats milk powder and it started everything. And in those three years I've learned more, grown more, and realised that goats milk powder was never the final answer. It could be better. It should be better.

I've got three dogs who are athletes. And the product they needed after a hard run didn't exist, including in my own range. That's the bit that really got to me.

So here's what's in the new formula and why.

Goats milk at 81% because it still earns its place. Coconut water at 8% for real whole food electrolytes; potassium, magnesium, sodium at levels that actually do something. Nettle at 7% because I'm obsessed with it and the antihistamine action during exercise load is something nobody is talking about. Slippery elm and marshmallow root at 1.5% each because none of the other ingredients matter if the gut lining is too stressed to absorb them properly. And sea salt at 0.8% because sodium is what actually drives fluid into cells.

This change is a couple of months out yet so you've got time.

I want to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Most dog food is missing something. And for working dogs, dogs that are asked to give everything, that gap matters more than most people realise.

That's why we're doing this.

Fettle exists because I couldn't find supplements I actually trusted for my own dogs. I have two Flat Coated Retrievers. Digby is ten and still going strong. The younger one I'm currently training for the field. Proper nutrition isn't abstract for me. It's every morning before a run, every season, every year of a working dog's life.

The gundog world deserves a brand that's genuinely invested in it. So we're putting our products, our name and our support behind the people and events that make this world what it is.

If you're organising a trial, working test, charity day or have-a-go event, we want to back you. We've funded rosettes, trophies, goody bags and equipment. We create and share content promoting the events we support. We'll even show up on the day. We're not a logo on a gate. We're in it with you start to finish. Whatever you need, we'll try!

If you're a serious handler or trainer, we're looking for individuals who care as much about what goes into their dog as what they get out of them. Honest people who wouldn't put their name to something they didn't believe in.

There’s better choices that can be made when it comes to hydrating your dog properly. Tap water in their bowl can be swapped to filtered, and options like goats milk or bone broth are excellent for post-exercise to replace minerals that have been lost.

are a great option for bone broth if you don’t have the time to make your own - conveniently packaged to store in the freezer and easily defrosted when needed. They offer a range of proteins to suit individual diets and energetics.

Our goats milk powder is available to buy on our website.

Your dog can live a good life on complete food. I'm not here to tell you otherwise.

But there's a difference between living and thriving. And that difference looks different for every single dog.

We've got five dogs. Four different breeds. Five different ages. Not one of them has the same nutritional needs.

And yet the pet food industry wants us to believe that one formula, however carefully made, covers all of them. Completely. Balanced. Done.

Here's the thing. Complete and balanced meets a standard. A standard designed for the average dog. And the average dog doesn't exist. It's a statistical fiction that makes manufacturing convenient and marketing simple.

We're not feeding a hundred identical animals. We're feeding individuals. Dogs with different genetics, different activity levels, different predispositions, different environments, different ages. A nine year old dog and a six month old puppy are not the same biological project. A working dog and a sofa dog are not the same biological project. Treating them like they are isn't nutrition. It's convenience dressed up in a claim.

Complete food is the house. But if there are no windows, is it really a home.

Your dog deserves someone asking the question the bag never will. What does this dog actually need.

The Flat-Coated Retriever Meet Up is happening. Sunday 28th June, 11am in Suffolk.

20 acres of secure field, a retrieve scurry, goats milk slushies for the dogs, proper food and coffee for the humans, and a day built entirely around this breed doing what it does best.

Places are limited and it’s sign-up only. Link to register is in our bio.

What to expect:
→ 20 acres of fully secure meadow
→ Retrieve scurry
→ Goats milk slushies for the dogs
→ Good coffee, cold drinks and food for the humans
→ A photographer on site throughout the day
→ A group photo at the end because obviously

A few things to know:
→ Please be confident your dog is social and neutral to other dogs
→ Dogs on lead on arrival and departure, leads off once through the meadow gate
→ Clean up after your dog, bags provided throughout
→ Know your dog. This is 20 acres of Flat Coats running riot. If they struggle in that environment, have an honest moment before signing up. If they kick off on the day, it’s on you to step in, recall them and settle them down

See you in the meadow 🖤

Perfect Canicross Event Location 😍

Amber and I have been going to canicross events for a few seasons now. We sponsor a few of them too. Love them! The people, the dogs, the whole thing.

But I’ve wanted to do our own one for a while. So we drove out to meet Bruce at Worsted Estate, and within ten minutes we knew this was the place.

Parkland. Meadows. Pine and hardwood woodland. Rolling farmland. A lake. Uphills, downhills, proper varied terrain. The kind of place a dog loves to run.

We’re planning this for the 2026/2027 season; no date locked in yet but we’re working on it. Right now we’re out mapping route options and figuring out what the race distances are going to look like.

But before we go any further we want to hear from you. What would make this the perfect day? What do you actually need on the day? What would make it worth the drive? Drop it in the comments, we’re reading every single one.

Second update coming as soon as we have something worth sharing.

And yes, there’ll be a proper focus on nutrition on the day. Because these dogs are working hard and what they’re eating actually matters.

Watch this space!

For World Bee Day, we wanted to share an educational post around these important pollinators.

In current environments, it’s making it harder and harder for bees to survive. There are various ways we can help support these little workers!

We hope this post provides some inspiration. 🐝
