It’s easy to think all retrieving breeds are the same. But this certainly isn’t the case. They all have different traits for their job out in the field. Some work very close to the handler, sticking to what they’re told to, while some have to think more independently. Some have coats that are made for harsher working conditions. Some have more playful and enthusiastic temperaments that are needed for their particular job.

The varied traits can sometimes come across as “bad behaviours” in a pet home. This is why we have teamed up with Bear Basics | Gundog Training For Family Pets to bring you a webinar that discusses how you can fulfil your pet gundog and handle common behaviours you may be struggling with.

Well, this is certainly our biggest monthly recap to date! Let’s get straight into it…

🍄‍🟫 NEW mushroom tinctures! We launched these on pre-order and they’ve already proven popular. They’ll be in stock & shipping throughout September, so head to our website to learn more or pre-order yours!

🏃🏼‍♀️ Our 5km canicross route is officially nailed down. Next up is finalising the 10km, alongside all the behind-the-scenes planning such as food vendors, medals and everything else in between.

🏕️ Taylor & I (Amber) went camping again and finished the trip with kayaking where Raven & Inca joined. Safe to say, the roof tent has been well used this summer!

🌾 Framlingham Country Show was 1/3 events this month. It was lovely meeting so many new and familiar faces - thank you to everyone who stopped by!

📦 We’re back to fulfilling orders in-house! We tried third-party fulfilment back in March, but the extra processing time ended up making things harder. It’s so great physically seeing your orders be packed and sent out by us in the factory!

👩🏼‍💻 We hosted our first webinar with Raven K9 Dog Training | Emma | Dog Trainer, discussing “treating dogs like the athletes they are”. Thank you to everyone who joined! This is just the start, there’s plenty more webinars in the pipeline with other people in the dog industry. If there’s any topics you’d like to see, let us know in the comments.

🤩 NEW packaging is at the printers! Our reformulated products are getting a fresh look and we cannot wait to share them with you!

🐕 We did two pop-ups - GRC Dog Sports UK on Saturday and Banham Blooms | Flower Farm Dog Day today. GRC Fest was so much fun, we loved watching the dogs compete in the support and everyone there was so lovely!

We offered free dog photography at Banham Blooms | Flower Farm - there’s 2,000 photos to work through… good luck to that Taylor! 😂

And that concludes August. A very busy, full-on month, leaving us all a bit tired. But looking back, it’s so worth it when you see how much we’ve achieved.

September will be our first event-free month since April, but there’s still plenty happening behind the scenes and I suspect next months recap will be just as big… 👀

My honest opinion, not gospel. “Working dog” doesn’t mean what it used to.

We’ve still got proper pet dogs, and that’s great!

But between gundogs training for trials, canicross, sledding, protection sport, agility, flyball, hoopers, mantrailing, club nights, competitions, all sorts, a lot of you are properly working your dog and just never called it that.

Tell me what yours does, genuinely curious…

A reminder that we will be at Banham Blooms | Flower Farm in a weeks time, giving out free goats milk slushies and taking photos of your dogs!

Open 10am - 4pm for you to wander round and PYO flowers. Taylor will be taking candid shots of dogs on the day but if you’d like a posed one, you’re more than welcome to ask for one!

The webinar is all about ‘Treating Dogs Like the Athletes They Are’.

Whether your dog is worked, you compete in a sport or do an activity just for fun, their care shouldn’t begin and end when the activity does.

The webinar will be exploring how we can better support our dogs around the sports and jobs they take part in. From preparing their bodies for activity to supporting recovery and everything in between, we’ll be discussing why it’s so important to treat our dogs like the athletes they are.
