🐾 TOP DOG TIP #7 – KNOW WHAT’S NORMAL FOR YOUR DOG ❤️

One of the best things you can do for your dog is simply know them.

You know how much they normally:

🐶 Eat
💧 Drink
💩 Toilet
😴 Sleep
🐾 Exercise
❤️ Interact with you

Small changes can sometimes be the first clue that something isn’t quite right.

Suddenly drinking much more?
Not interested in their favourite food?
Moving differently?
Sleeping considerably more?
Acting unusually quiet or withdrawn?

Trust your knowledge of your dog. If you're worried about a change in their health or behaviour, speak to your vet.

❤️ They can’t tell us when something feels wrong – but they often show us.

🐾 TOP DOG TIP #6 – REST IS IMPORTANT TOO! 😴

We talk a lot about keeping dogs exercised and entertained, but dogs need plenty of opportunity to switch off and sleep too.

Constant activity isn’t necessarily better.

Give your dog somewhere comfortable where they can rest without being disturbed, particularly in busy households.

And remember – puppies especially need LOTS of sleep! 💤

A dog that seems wild, bitey or unable to settle may sometimes actually be overtired rather than under-exercised.

🐾 TOP DOG TIP #5 – BRUSH LITTLE & OFTEN ✨

Regular brushing isn’t just about making your dog look gorgeous!

It can help you:

✂️ Prevent knots and matting
🐾 Spot lumps, bumps and skin changes
🌱 Find grass seeds or debris
🪲 Notice unwanted passengers like ticks
❤️ Get your dog comfortable with being handled

For longer or curly coats, make sure you’re brushing right down through the coat rather than just over the top – hidden knots often form close to the skin.

And don’t forget the common problem areas:

👉 Behind the ears
👉 Armpits
👉 Legs
👉 Collar/harness areas
👉 Tail

A few minutes regularly is much easier than tackling a badly tangled coat!

🐾 TOP DOG TIP #4 – YOUR DOG NEEDS BRAIN EXERCISE TOO! 🧠

Walks are brilliant, but exercise doesn’t always have to mean running around!

Mental enrichment can be wonderfully tiring and satisfying for dogs.

Easy things to try at home:

🐶 Scatter some of their food in the garden
🐶 Hide treats around a room
🐶 Use a snuffle mat
🐶 Teach a new trick
🐶 Put treats inside cardboard boxes for them to investigate
🐶 Practise simple scent games

Even 10 minutes of focused enrichment can add something valuable to their day.

🐾 TOP DOG TIP #3 – DON’T FORGET THEIR TEETH! 🦷

When did you last have a proper look at your dog’s teeth?

Dental care is easily forgotten, but keeping an eye on their mouth can help you spot problems early.

Look out for:

🦷 Bad breath
🦷 Red or bleeding gums
🦷 Heavy tartar build-up
🦷 Broken or damaged teeth
🦷 Difficulty chewing
🦷 Suddenly avoiding harder food

Ideally, dogs should gradually be introduced to dog-safe tooth brushing – and NEVER use human toothpaste.

If something doesn’t look right, speak to your vet.
