Just your average home visit when we can’t walk. Wait for the Otto zoomies 😂😂😂

Misty early walk, only one of the day. Thanks to Exeter dog field for allowing us to switch up our usual booking so we could beat the heat!

♻️ Resharing my post from a few years ago because it’s so relevant again with this heatwave, and I know it’s something a lot of us probably wouldn’t think twice about.

Whilst doing a garden visit with this gorgeous boy and was just about to spray him with the hose for a bit of water play and to help him cool down. Thankfully, I remembered to let the water run for a minute first and put my hand in front of the spray… it was boiling hot! 🥵

I’m so glad I checked before poor Obi got sprayed.

Please, please check your hosepipes in this weather before spraying your dog (or your child… or even yourself!). The water sitting inside the hose can get incredibly hot in the sun and could easily badly burn you!

Definitely worth taking those extra few seconds to check first. ❤️🐾

☀️🐾 EXTREME HEAT PROTOCOL FOR THE COMING WEEK 🐾☀️

Looking ahead at the forecast for the next week or so, we’re being proactive to ensure all dogs stay safe and comfortable during the hot weather.

To protect everyone from the extreme temperatures, we’ll be making a few temporary changes:

🐾 All walks will start earlier and be shortened where necessary.

🌳 Walks will take place in shaded areas with access to water.

🏡 Dogs who are home alone will be prioritised.

🐶 More vulnerable dogs (brachycephalic breeds, older dogs and puppies) will either be walked first or swapped to a home visit instead.

🌡️ All walks will be completed before temperatures become too hot for both dogs and humans.

🏠 If you are home and would prefer to cancel your dog’s walk, that’s absolutely fine too. Please just let me know as soon as possible.

📱 Everyone will be contacted directly over the next few days with their individual walk times and any changes that may affect them.

Thank you, as always, for your understanding and support.

❤️🐾 Your dog’s safety and wellbeing will always be my number one priority.

Safe fun play and enrichment at our secure field walk today. And for once, it didn’t rain and the big puddle has dried up much to the dismay of Cass and Len! 😂

I’m all for children being proactive, learning responsibility, and earning a bit of money. Those are great life skills.

That said, dog walking really isn’t an industry that should be treated as an easy way to make some pocket money.

To be clear, this isn’t about competition with anyone wanting to become a dog walker – there’s plenty of room for good, professional dog walkers and I think it’s a fantastic job. But it’s also a role that carries a huge amount of responsibility.

Dogs can be unpredictable, reactive, strong, frightened, injured, or involved in situations that require quick decisions and experience. Professional dog walkers carry insurance, have training, understand canine behaviour, and are responsible for the safety of both the dogs and the public.

I wouldn’t even let Daisy handle a dog on her own, and she’s grown up around dogs her entire life and knows far more about them than most adults.

By all means encourage children to be entrepreneurial, but when it comes to walking someone else’s dog, it’s important to recognise the level of responsibility involved.

I think I’ve reached peak photography skills today! Took around 30 photos, lots of repositioning, treats, squeaky noises from me and quick camera action, but LOOK!!!!👀

“When the dog doesn’t care for schedules and decides they should be seeing Cranbrook Petcare today!” 🤣🤣🤣

Apparently Tilly spent the morning sat by the front door refusing to move because she thought it was her walk day 🥹

Her owner eventually opened the door to prove I wasn’t coming… and straight away she raced to the gate, tail wagging, looking up the road waiting for me 💔🐾

I honestly don’t think dog walkers ever get used to moments like this. Being trusted and loved by your dogs means absolutely everything and it’s the absolute BEST reference and recommendation we could ever ask for❤️

See you soon, Tilly girl 🐶

What a week that was! ☀️🐾
Here’s just a snapshot of the few walks we did manage.
With the heat, we’ve had lots of walks cancelled, others moved to earlier times (thank you all so much for being flexible ❤️), plus plenty of house visits with some new furry faces.

Thankfully it’s cooled down a little now, and we’re hoping to get back to a more normal routine next week 🤞

Have the best weekend, Petcare Family 🥰
