Are you thinking of sharing your Christmas dinner with your 4 legged friend?!

Before you do, read this because you could actually be poisoning your pup by feeding them a Christmas dinner as a special treat that you think is "harmless"!

πŸ– Meat fat, skin & bones:

The fat content of turkey skin can potentially cause pancreatitis and the seasonings which are typically used to season the skin of poultry (onion, garlic, spices, and herbs) can cause upset stomachs and you should never give your dog cooked bones because they splinter when chewed which can in turn cause your dog to choke!

🍫 Chocolate and Sweets:

Chocolate contains theobromine, a component which is easily digested by humans but toxic to dogs. While a small quantity of chocolate may only produce an upset stomach, large amounts of theobromine can cause seizures, internal bleeding, heartbeat irregularity, and even heart attack.

πŸ‡ Mince Pies & Christmas Pudding/Cake:

Grapes and raisins are highly toxic to dogs and should be kept out of reach. Small quantities can result in severe consequences, including kidney failure, digestion issues, and sudden renal failure.

πŸ₯œ Nuts:

Macadamia nuts are highly toxic to dogs, even in small quantities, causing neurological damage such as tremors, disorientation, and even short-term paralysis.

We all love to treat our dogs at Christmas as we want them to be a part of our celebrations so if you want to give them some Christmas Dinner then just make sure you remove all the bits that are bad first and load their plate with turkey (no skin) and lots of veggies, they will love you just as much! ❀️

With the in full swing, cat owners should be mindful of the signs of heatstroke. 🐱🌑️ Heatstroke is a very serious condition that can cause severe dehydration, organ damage and death. Obese, long-haired, old, young and brachycephalic/flat-faced cats (such as Persians) are most at risk of developing heatstroke because they find it harder to cool down.

The most common cause of heatstroke in cats is being accidentally trapped in a hot, poorly ventilated space such as a shed, greenhouse, conservatory, or garage, so make sure to keep an eye on your cat in very hot weather! β˜€οΈ If your cat is showing symptoms of heatstroke, start cooling them down immediately and contact your vet. The quicker your cat is cooled down and treated by a vet, the better their chance of recovery.

See advice from our vets on what you can do to help prevent or provide first aid for heatstroke: http://pdsa.me/amQc

🧊 Please note that ice cubes are perfectly safe for cats to use as a treat to cool down on a hot day. It is when a cat is suffering from heatstroke that the drastic change in temperature from the ice can cause shock and, therefore, should be avoided. A cat’s normal body temperature ranges between 38.1-39.2Β°C (100.5-102.5Β°F).
