🌜 Happy Eclipse Day! 🐾
For those who may have missed the news — the UK is expecting to witness a partial solar eclipse later today, between 6pm and 8pm, followed by a meteor shower. 🌘✨
While this is a rare and exciting event for us, it can potentially cause confusion or stress for our pets due to the sudden changes in natural daylight, unusual activity in the sky, and, of course, them picking up on our excitement!
Here are a few tips to help keep your pets calm and safe during the spectacle:
🐾 Keep pets indoors — Pets are less likely to notice the sudden changes in daylight when they’re safely inside. While it’s extremely unlikely that they would look directly at the sun, keeping them indoors also removes the risk of accidental eye exposure. Keeping cats indoors can also help prevent potential road accidents caused by the sudden change in light levels.
🐾 Stay calm — Our pets often pick up on our emotions, which can influence how they’re feeling too. If we stay calm and relaxed, it can help them feel the same.
🐾 Offer distractions — Treats, toys, cuddles and a little playtime can help keep their attention on something familiar and positive while things outside are changing. 🐶🐱
🐾 Let them rest — A sudden change in daylight levels may temporarily affect their circadian rhythm (aka their body clock). If your pet becomes sleepy or wants to settle down for a nap, let them! 😴🐾
Most importantly, enjoy this unusual spectacle together — and remember that while we may find it fascinating, our pets may simply wonder why the sky has suddenly decided to behave strangely! 🌝🐾✨
