🐾 EVEN A GROOMER’S DOG SHEDS! 🐾😂

My own Rough Collie was groomed and thoroughly de-shed 6 weeks ago. At the time, she was shedding, but it wasn’t excessive and she certainly wasn’t blowing her entire coat.

Fast forward 6 weeks… and she is now BLOWING THE REST OF HER COAT! 😳🪮😂

So, of course, she was back in the salon today for another good de-shed!

And this is something I think is really important to remember when you have a double-coated breed…

✨ A de-shed does NOT stop a dog from shedding. ✨

It removes the loose and ready to come out undercoat that is present at the time of the groom. But it doesn't change the anatomy or natural growth cycle of the coat.

So when your dog’s coat is ready to shed again, it will shed again! 🐶💨

It doesn’t necessarily mean the groomer has done anything wrong, missed loads of coat, or that the de-shed “didn’t work”. Sometimes your dog simply wasn’t ready to release all of that coat at the previous appointment.

My own dog is the perfect example! 😂 Six weeks ago, she wasn’t blowing like she is now and today I could have made another Rough Collie out of the amount of fluff that came out! 🤣

Regular grooming can help manage shedding and keep that beautiful double coat healthy, but no groomer can permanently stop a dog from shedding and honestly, neither would we want to! ❤️

Now… who wants to come round and hoover my house? 😂🐾

There are days when I have to stop and remind myself just how lucky I am. ❤️🐾

Every wagging tail, every excited face at the salon door, every cuddle, kiss, and happy zoomie reminds me why I chose this job.

I'm so grateful to each and every one of you who trusts me with your precious dogs. It really is a privilege to spend my days caring for them, making them feel their best, and getting to know all of their unique little personalities.

From tiny puppies having their first groom to my wonderful regulars who feel like part of the Barking Beauties family, thank you for keeping my little salon so busy and so full of love.

I truly have the best job in the world, and it's all thanks to you and your amazing doggies. 🩷🐶

A puppy's first groom isn't about getting a fancy haircut, it's about building confidence and positive experiences. A puppy groom introduces them to the sights, sounds, smells, and gentle handling they'll experience during regular grooming appointments. At around 14 weeks, puppies can begin gentle grooming sessions to get them used to being handled, brushed, bathed, dried, and introduced to clippers. Starting young helps prevent fear, keeps their coat healthy, reduces matting, and sets them up for a lifetime of stress free grooming. 😍🐾 it also gives us groomers the chance to educate owners on coat care brushing techniques etc. 🐾🐶
